Coilpacks gone!

******. On the motorway with mum going shopping in Bicester and wanted to show her what the remap has done. (She hates me speeding) so on an empty stretch I got it upto 105mph then the shaking started.

Went to AMD and it was a coilpack. I imagine the remap made them work a bit harder so I had them all replaced. Expensive though - £210! Didn't have the heart (or money) to buy any clothes in the end!

 

Join the AA as they carry them on the Van as they are that common to fail

i had same thing happen little while ago - i always carry a spare now in the boot - 18quid each from audi and u can replace them yourself in 5mins
100quid to fit them ???? Im in the wrong job

if i knew what the prob was I'd have found out how to do them myself but had no idea. Thought it may be something to do with the remap.

How would you know which one's dead for you to do it yourself? Do they look different?

so next time i'll call my breakdown people and they'll tell me whats wrong with the car. Then just pay for the part for installing it! Why did I not think of that?

Has no-one mentioned lifetime warranty on coil packs if serviced at audi ??

Audi will replace coilpacks even if not dealer serviced. My S3 only had 1 dealer service at 1 year old. Still replaced a dodgy coil pack at 4 years 4 months old.

From my experience, I now carry a spare. 7pm on a Saturday night and the AA man said 'I normally have one of these on the van but I used my spare earlier today. I can't get another one so I'll tow you home'. If it goes again, AA man can diagnose which cylinder, fit my spare coilpack and all sorted.

£210 for 4 coil packs sounds a bit steep from AmD - up to their usual tricks! You can tell that the 'new' owners of AmD are ex Aston Green Audi in Slough - sometimes I think they forget they now run a specialist and not a main dealer when they work out their invoices!!!
