Worth the extra premium, weight and less mpg over a 2wd ?

Expensive for a small car, BMW E39 530d and E46 330d territory.

Advice and must do mods.

Has it a dual mass flywheel and if so is it best to convert to a single mass ?

Will a Stage 1 + 50bhp & 50ftlb remap kill the clutch ?

And what conversion and or clutch for Stage 1 for a near stock feel ?

Many thanks & Merry Christmas.

Personally I love the quattro system, but even when doing motorway runs I'd get maybe 50mpg absolute tops. Nearer 45. Around town it's 30mpg all day which isn't particularly good as now I do a lot of short journeys, before I'd be doing 70 miles+ a day.

It is pretty heavy car, but with a map it's not too slow.

Must do mods would be a remap, I couldn't comment on a stage 1 map killing the clutch though I had torque limited with a custom map to prolong the life of my original 180k clutch and flywheel.

My advice would be do routine oil and filter changes with decent fully synthetic oil. You can use the newer PD oil for the 2.0 engines as there is evidence to suggest it's better than the usual PD stuff, but both are fine. As with most cars, ensure it has decent service history, including Haldex oil and filter, cambelt, oil and filter etc. etc.
