Here's an image from Audi, apparently of a 1.6TDI as fitted to the A1 Sportback (I would imagine largely the same throughout the range).
As you look at it, you can see a fairly featureless shiny box pretty much slap-bang in the middle of the image (due east of the alternator). As far as I can work out, that's the oil cooler, which is attached to the base of the filter bracket - certainly there's a cylindrical unit visible behind it, which I'd suggest is a good candidate for being the filter bracket. It should just unscrew at the top, allowing you to pull the filter insert out (of course with a suitable amount of swearing due to it being the insert type, and drenched in oil! ).
