Hi all, just a quick question as i can't find it anywhere on google. Is the bi-xenon headlight bulb still the D2S type like the 8P?

D3S apparently.

What I wanna know is why the higher end cars have nicer colour headlights? Anyone know the wattage and colour temp of the A3 HIDs vs the ones fitted to an A6 (for example)?

Nissan Qashqai's have awesomely coloured bulbs! I think it's partly down to the type of projector housing used though and how the light gets cut off, it's what gives the light that purple glow.

If it is a D3s fitment then these are the new eco xenon bulbs with a 4700k colour temperature but what l have noticed is the S-Line cars 2012-2014 have this colour temperature bulb where my 2015 S3 has a higher temperature colour 5800k colour blueish white.
The Oem D3s bulb "Philips "only comes in a 4700k colour temperature but you can buy replica Chinese D3s bulbs off ebay with a lot higher kelvin rating

Yeah i had 8000k in my 8p which wasnt as blue/purple as i thought, but was definitely a lot dimmer. So i guess its whether you want brightness or colour temperature.

I got that D3S from one of those automotive bulb finder websites, so I am not 100% sure whether it is correct. It stated that all modern Audis use that type of lamp, so if OEM is Philips and they only make 4700K, how does your car have 5800K fitted? Aftermarket?

Need someone who works at a dealer to compare part numbers mefinks...

It's year dependant or model,hid4u/Autobulbs only sell 4700k Oem bulbs but eBay will sell Chinese D3s up to 8000k,my focus ST had D3s bulbs 47000k osram make them aswell

47000k give off a very white coloured light with no hint of blue at all my car has blue. Whit

Audi change them all the time,it seems,my bulbs are Oem and are 5800k at least,l had 4700k in my ST....l see every S-Line with this colour of bulb fitted,Autobulbs/Hid4u they only sell replacement Oems D3s in 4700k.
My headlights are the same colour as my sons 65 plate A5 Coupe Black Ed...so they may not be D3s???
l will get my son to ask the showrooms parts dept....if he can be *****

Some cars have LED lights in projector housings, so don't confuse these with Xenons.
LED's seem to have much more of a blue hue to them.

Just going back through old threads.

Has anyone fitted bulbs to theirs yet? Got mine in d3s fitment ready to fit at the weekend and wondered how easy it was to do. Is it a bumper off job like the 8P or is it accessible through the arch lining?
