Hi,
I gathering some bits together for installing a subwoofer, to replace my badly distorting Bose sub.

I am going to install a 10" sub, but having looked at some of the specs for them, the seem to weigh a ton. Typically 5 - 6 kg just for the driver, and then another 5 kg for the box.

Question is, would I notice the extra 10kg weight in my car when driving (aceleration and cornering wise)?

Comments welcome.

Cheers,
Glen

10kg in motorsport is a huge amount. On road use I would say most defenately no.

S3's a heavy old beast any way, I'm sure another 10kg isn't going to hurt :)

In Motorsport i found a tenth a Kilo was accurate, road use you wont see any difference what-so ever. What sub you going for?

Jason

Nah you won't notice the difference at all.
In fact I'd be suprised if it even put 0.1 on your 1/4 mile time.

i had a 50kg comp sub in mine and noticed no differance

i thought i would when i took it out but didnt atall

simple answer get a 10 kgs thingymajig and put it in the boot and try it.

Ive got a thingymajig if you want :moa:

he could have you as a passenger Nilz that would do the trick

based on an S3 weighing 1400kg @ increase of 7kg is 0.5%. You probably lose more power as a % when the tempreture changes

Ok, I guess I'm just being unduly anal about the added weight.
Hopefully I'll notice nothing then, other than lots of added SPL.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I'm either going for a Alpine TypeR, or a JL Audio 10w3v2 sub.
My heart says JL Audio, but my wallet says Alpine....:meeting:
I recently got 2 12's in mine Orion absolutely awesome stuff very much recommended

Go with your heart mate! I ran a 13 year old 12" JL audio sub with only a 640w kenwood amp up until a few weeks ago (need boot space) and honestly it never went wrong on me the bass was so crisp and it picked up every note, I gave it a beating and it stil live on!!

Ive always had Kenwood, didnt have any complaints about it at all....
