Especially for @Blackwhite :D

If Audi sold the A3 with the 220bhp 2.0TFSI petrol engine on the Uk market would you have considered it?

BTW this engine is available in the A3 in North America as well as other markets I'm not aware of

Horsepower - 220bhp @ 4500-6200rpm
Torque - 258 lb/ft @ 1600-4400rpm

Me? I would certainly had a serious look TBH :thumbs up:

Basically a Golf GTI then? If it had the VAQ diff that might be very good.

I love a good vote BH!

If I were going for a 2 litre tfsi and all that goes with it (£ insurance, £ road tax, economy vs performance etc), then I would want more than 220 bhp. I suppose the idea is to appeal to the driver who wants a bit of extra grunt, but who also wants a more vanilla exterior - would that be right? Otherwise, you'd get the 2 litre tfsi in the S3 with considerably more poke.

I would have done if I hadnt have been able to negotiate the discount I wanted on the S3 but then again by the time you add all the options I wanted onto the S-line and the 220BHP would inevitably be more than the 1.8tfsi or 2.0tdi 184 it wouldn't make sense.....

Now putting the 2.0 BITDI 240BHP????? out of the new passat that would be appealing!

anyone else think there's to many engine choices at the lower end 1.2tfsi 1.4tfsi 1.4codtfs 1.6tdi ??? maybe the whole range should be drop the 1.2tfsi move everything down to the previous capacities price and add in the 2.0tfsi 220 where the 1.8tfsi used to be.....

I had a Mondeo ST220 that was remapped to about 245bhp. After a few years of it though I wanted a 2.0T with oodles of power and some class. The Evo and Scooby don't have any of the latter.
220 (ish) bhp cars are 10-a-penny.
0-60 in about 6 seconds and 150mph.
Y A W N ! !

The S3 fits the bill perfectly. It's a great car to drive slowly or fast.
The Merc A45 thing was never an option....I hired an A Class version of that model last year and it was a pile of poo. Engine aside, it was built like a Ford Escort. Utter crap for such a new car!!!
The Audi has it hands down.

Sure we discussed this before..... ;)

A lot of the sales/marketing decisions made by the Importer / country distributor (Audi UK) are made on the basis of what the market needs/will buy. In the case of the UK, the overwhelming market decision maker is the fleet/company car market.

So if it doesn't suit fleet buyers due to cost/fleet charges/emissions etc. it's more than likely that mere retail consumers won't see it in the UK market.

I appreciate your comments V8 :thumbs up:

@Blackwhite - If my memory serves me right you have this engine in the sedan BW

Any chance of a small review? ;) :D

It really is unbelievable! Smooth for touring around town.
But when there is the need for speed ---------- it's got what it takes.
When stopped, then start, all the cars around me disappear in my
rear-view mirror, without trying. :superman:

Best car I ever had.

I said no. I wanted a proper step up from my old car (200 bhp 8P) and an extra 20 hp wouldn't have cut it.

I have just changed from a 220bhp A4 avant Quattro and was a damn fine motor and quick, s3 saloon is faster and very smooth. A4 had a hard ride, s line suspension, mag ride in S3 sorts that. enjoyed and enjoying both cars...... 2 good engines, A4 never missed a beat.....
