I read that fitting an under tray can improve mpg, as I've just purchased a 2.5 TDi and will be doing manly motorway miles I'm considering fitting on.

Even a slight improvement of MPG would save me £££££ with the amount of miles I do a year

It has one fitted as standard, sounds like a garage has failed to put yours back on at some stage - it may make a slight difference in MPG at higher speeds but it mainly reduces the engine noise considerably and helps prevent dirt and grit being sprayed all over your lower pulleys and electrical connections.

Audi designed the car with an under tray for a reason

yes it does make a difference - just added the engine and gearbox ones back onto mine.
