Wired issue

So bit of a wired one, ive posted about my 2.5 v6 tdi starting poor when cold glow plug light taking an age to go out but when warm does as it should, i was going to swap my glow plugs after work today but someone recommended to try n start my car with my side lights on 1st see if that makes a difference to starting, this morning it was freezing ice all over my car and the engine started fine with side lights on glow plug light off in seconds and the car started 1st time, how wired, easy fix?
