Winter Wheel Rim/Tyre Size Query

Hi all,

I have a 2018 3.0L Q5, currently on the standard 19" wheels with 235/55 tyres. I'm looking at getting some winter wheels for it, ideally second hand set as it's generally cheaper although it means slim pickings!

I was hoping to get a set of 18" however I've come across a set of 17" audi A5 wheels with 225/50 winter tyres on- will these be too shallow and narrow or will they be fine on my car? Seller also has another set of 17" wheels off a q5 (assume from the base model) with 235/65 tyres on which I guess is the tyre size I’d ideally need, I just much prefer the aforementioned wheels

They look great, and if i had a limitless pot of money id definitely spend more on something that looks as good as either of those options! But i havent hence my question about smaller wheel sizes and their suitability/compatibility.

looks like the 17” q5 wheels ive found will be suitable so i may go with them as they have the same tyre size as the 17” in the catalogue on the q5 page, id prefer the a5 ones but i dont think the tyres on them would be the right size

Maybe best stick to your wheel and tyre label, like so - and as you say a 235/65 R17 104H M+S, you cannot go wrong:

Bought the 17" wheels, model 80A601025J with 235/65 winter tyres fitted, due to collect soon. As I won't be able to fit a wheel to check due to evening collection, I was wondering if anyone is able to confirm if they will definitely fit my 3L TDI (2081) q5? I think the front discs are slightly bigger than the 2L model, but I'm assuming these wheels should be fine still?

Just got a nagging feeling that I'll pick them up, come to fit them and find they won't fit! The size is as per the top half of the label on the inside of the door, although the 17" size isn't listed in the lower section- anyone know what the bottom half of the label is for?!

Yes, they will fit. The 235/65 R 17 are the smallest recommended for the 2017/18 Q5 FY.

The bottom half of the list is just a continuation of the top half of the list listing the range: 235/65 R 17 to 245/45 R 20
- nothing complicated
