Hi all I m just wondering what size should my winter tyres be as I m running on 245/45/17 at the moment(summer)and I m thinking to get some winter ones but the same measurements as I ll swap the summer ones but keep the alloys.Adi

Sizes suitable for your car and drivetrain are listed on a sticker inside the drivers door jam.

That summer size seems odd for 17", pretty sure it should be 225/50/17 OE size on the 8K.

Thanks for reply I know about the stick but I will like to keep the look of my car as when I ve bought the car back in March has been fitted with 245/45/17 ones and these are looking so good on the car and I'd like to keep that look but surely be safe as well.

Personally I'd be sticking with the recommended sizes as things can go out of sync like speedo, mileometer etc plus using non-OE approved tyre sizes may have implications should you be in an accident and they were checked.

But anyway, the OE size for 17" tyres on the 8K is 225/50/17 both summer and winter.

Also the car was fitted by the previous owner with sport suspension as option and these tyres(the Audi sales assistant explained)

Why ask for advice if you are not going to take it?

............. other than from a used car salesman ;)

Standard size wheel and tyre on the B8 is 7.5J x 17; ET 45 225/50 R17 94Y

Well I will take it if I consider that s right and in this caseit is. 225/50 is the size for my winter tyres. Sorted. Thanks

I used to run 235/45/17 summer tyres on my B8. They are a much more common size than 245/45/17 hence a good bit cheaper.
A Goodyear Eagle F1 assy 3 XL 235/45/17 is £82.60

A Goodyear Eagle F1 assy 3 XL 245/45/17 is £109.70

I run Nokian A3 225/50/17 for my winter tyres the latest A4 is a slight improvement over the A3 . A3 is £91 and A4 £100

Nokian A3 and A4 in 245/45/17 £116 and £123 respectively

Go for 225/50/17 tyres they are a good deal cheaper and work better as a winter tyre being slightly narrower and slightly taller than your summer tyres.

Thanks alot for such a detailed answer and Yes exactly these are the tyres I ll get 225/50/17 v rating Nokian from on line. Thanks again

Compare when you can using 2 different GPS speedo apps , 245 45 17 , app Vs speedo and 225 50 17 , app Vs speedo .

My insurance told me that they would not provide cover if I only fitted 2 winter tyres. A lot of people seem to think it is ok to fit just 2. I wonder if their insurance covers them for that?
