Anyone know if this steering wheel from a s3 8v will fit my 2012 s tronic sportback s3? If so does anything need doing via vag com?

your 2012 is a 8p so the airbags wrong and so are the controls
You need one from a A4 or A5 which has "mode" button on the left instead of the two arrows
You also need the airbag from the A4 / A5 as they are dual stage, the 8v is single

I suppose I could just get my wheel retrimmed instead. Prob be cheaper

My wheel is same as this but with paddles

Highly recommend Royal, very good company

As for trimming it like the rs3, I've had alcantara R8 wheel before and would never have another, wears to quick and looks messy

The TTRS & RS6 wheels is a direct fit for your car including your airbag

A lot thicker and has the thumb definition etc

I had mine done in alcantara and it feels great - ask them to add some thickness to the wheel too (no cost option). As for wearing, I've had alcantara before and it does require looking after (careful cleaning etc...) but I never noticed any wear after 20k miles?

I wouldn't have alcantara I'd have it trimmed like this

Having it trimmed like the picture above is a lot lot cheaper than buying a new wheel.

Is this the wheel I would need then to be a direct fit?

Yes mate that's the one you need

You do need to swap a couple of pins on your airbag loom but it's VERY simple

Failing that. Would a RS3 8P wheel fit straight on? As found one online.

And it wouldn't need any modification to work?

No mate, it's Basicly the exact same wheel you already have, just thicker and fully perforated leather etc
You don't even need the airbag, yours is the same

You got a link or a pic of it ? Just to make sure we're talking about the same wheel ?

Should be this

Am tempted by a style like that but not a fan of having to mod the wiring

It's REALLY easy to do mate
Or if you can be without it for a couple of days then post it to me and I'll do it for you

Another option is to buy another loom off eBay, and adapt that, this will keep your original loom with your existing wheel and airbag to sell on complete
