Why does the Sportback have different rear lights?

Why is it that the Sportback has different rear light design to the 3-door?

Same goes for the RS4 and RS4 cab, totally different designs and I can't quite work out what the reason is.

I think that its because the 3dr lights wouldn't really suit the 5dr which looks more discreet than the 3dr if you ask me,I think that Audi just modelled the lights around the shape of the car and it gives it some individuality.

But aren't they exactly the same at the back? Just the sportback has extra length.

If you put Sportback rear lights on a 3 Door from behind it would just look like a Sportback. I think I prefer the sportback style lights.
