Can one of you clever people out there please tell me which clutch slave cylinder type my car has? The car is a 2001 face lift A3 1.8 T sport with an AUM engine, is it the external type slave, or the concentric type internal slave, thanks.

External slave, sits on top of the bell housing, secured with 2x 13mm bolts. Takes about 30 mins to replace if that's your issue.

I've had two new ones this year, cost about £40 at my local motorfactors

Thanks Mate, thats good news, I have to change the clutch and having the external slave makes it alot easier and cheaper of course.

yea, be VERY sure to check the old slave if you're not replacing it, first time I did a clutch on mine I didn't replace the slave, and for some reason, it started leaking straight after the change, and ruined the new clutch in 20 miles. I wasn't happy at all!

Mmm sounds like its a good idea to change the slave at the same time, I was hoping not have to disconect the hydraulics, achording to the book you can leave the lines conected with the external type.
