Which car should i buy?

The 05 plate a3 sport tdi (3 door) 113k full audi history

The 05 plate a4 tdi se (4 door) 105k full audi history

Which is going to hold the price better and is better overall ?
Is the 1.9 tdi engine better than the 2.0 tdi engine?

I'd goe for the golf. The audis are that much closer to needing a big service with cam belt.
2.0 engine is far superior, better power delivery and quieter than the 1.9. At that age both will be PD so not as refined as the later common rails.

Can you not find a lower mileage A3 with FSH ?

I think given the miles already covered the residual is of little importance. Go for the one you like best or see if you can find a lower mileage car.

yeah I also agree with stu, given mileage of any of them it makes no difference, buy the one you like the most, all should of had cambelts done already anyway, my a3 2.0 tdi sport was ****** well specced aswell for a sport, of course now its an sline plus, lol

forgetting the mileage i'd pick the golf, I prefered driving my Golf to this A3
