Hi all,

I've had a knigtmare with my motor the last few days, it's a 2005 A4 B7 3.0 V6 TDI Quattro (BKN engine).
I was driving along the other day when the engine seemed to cough, I looked at the dash and the yellow coil light was flashing, the engine cut out so I pulled over. Started the car after a long turnover and managed to get around the corner home. On the drive, the car wouldn't start, but starter motor turned well. Got a mate round with VAGCOM and the car started. The following error codes were displayed:
005493 - right engine mount solenoid valve (N145): short to plus p1575 - 001 upper limit exceeded.
005378 - fuel pump relay (j17): short to plus p1502 - 001 - upper limed exceeded.
005661 - glowplug for cylinder 4 (q13) open circuit p161d - 001 - upper limit exceeded.

Happy with the Glowplug failt as it's always been a ****** to start. I'm looking dowards the fuel pump relay but can't find the location of it anywhere. I've been told it's relay 614 and it's supposed to be in the engine bay. I can't find any relay panel in the engine bay at all, anyone got any ideas of location or something else to look at?!

Many thanks in advance,

Geordiea3.

Well, I found the fuel pump relay (under the ECU) and replaced it but still won't start. After a lot of fiddling I decided to change the fuel filter, primed with fresh diesel I gave it ago. She fired up and shut down a few seconds later with the glow plug light on. I checked the filter and the fuel had gone. I think it sounds like the fuel tank pump has gone. Anyone got any ideas how to change this, is it a tank out job?
Thanks in advance.

The relay is below ecu it has I light green wire going to it a 5 pin, the pump in the tank is only a scavenge pump and it feeds the common rail pump 1/2 bar it doesn't buzz on ignition or crank the common rail has a lift pump that sucks up 240 litres per hr. I'd try tow the car it could be a faulty crank sensor when it's towed it builds up impedance and fires. We have one in for engine rebuilds got all the pump equipment for testing. Ask a diesel specialist to check the common rail pump on the car with the Delphi sealed rail kit it's accurate and should put you in the direction of getting it solved.

UPDATE:
ON INSPECTION NO FUEL GETTING TO THE COMMON RAIL (CHECKED THE CLEAR PIPE IN THE FUEL FEED LINE). HAD CAR CHECKED BY DIESEL SPECIALIST, CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL PRIMING PUMP IN THE TANK WASN'T TURNING ON EVERY TIME, OR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF. REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY 614 AND 395 AND IT'S STILL THE SAME. DISCONNECTED THE PRESSURE SIDE TO THE FILTER AND NOTHING COMING OUT. CHECKED THE COMMON RAIL PUMP WAS PULLING FUEL UP BY BREAKING IN THE FUEL LINE AFTER FILTER AND USING A JERRY CAN OF DIESEL, IT SUCKED IT THROUGH WELL AND RAN GOOD. THE ONLY WAY TO DRIVE THE CAR IS TO REMOVE RELAY 395 AND SHORT ACROSS THE TERMINALS SO THE TANK PUMP RUN WHILST IT IS CONNECTED.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A WIRING SNAG OR COULD THIS BE A ECU PROBLEM NOT SENDING THE EARTH TO ENERGISE THE FUEL TANK PUMP?
REGARDS,
MIKE.
