Wheels rubbing

I have a 2.5tdi quattro se and have recently fitted a set of 18's et35 with 225/40/18 rubber. I noticed a couple of days ago that the front of the front wheelarches have been worn away slightly and snapped the small mudflaps also. It has to be the wheels rubbing against the arches but they don't touch anywhere on full lock and they don't seem to touch when the suspension is under duress, but obviously must do.
I was wondering whether anyone else has had a similar problem?

They shouldn't be rubbing, how wide are they?

8j wide. i think they are rubbing from the inside of the wheel when on full lock, whist cornering.

Is the offset (ET) value correct, perhaps you need spacers?

dont have any probs with mine and they are 235/35/19 same offset aswell

as far as i'm aware et35 should be fine

That offset is fine, maybe you should take a wheel off an check the offset's correct. Normally it's stamped on the inside of one of the spokes.
