While trying to take off my wheel the security nut has sheered at the shaped end. Can I get one from Audi to fit my exiting one? Or would I have to have a new set and get the bolt drilled out somehow. :scared2:

if there oem audi then yes audi will get you one.

They're hard as hell, so drilling the metal can be problematic, so as Bez advises, ask audi to match your bolt key code & order a new key, if the bolts been done up that tight then its probably a gun.

not sure what you mean... can you put a pic of where it sheared? Has the shank been left in the hub? It can be drilled out with a left-handed bit if so. Not a difficult job.

Audi can replace the lock nut, but dunno cost. Might be cheaper getting a replacement set.

Thanks for the replies. Just so annoyed as I was going to change my front brake pads and I need some tyres. Will ring audi. Might not use them again though.

Ricostuart: it's not the nut on the car but the extractor you put on to take the bolt off. The cast bit has snapped off.

I never over tighten them when i do it myself. Garage must have used a long bar as I asked them not to use a gun when I had the tyres changed.

£42 isn't bad tbh when you consider the options, of which is very limited to just this being the cheapest I reckon.

Thinking about it your right there. Suppose if a garage messed it up could end up have to buy a new alloy as well. It's just I have to drive an hour to get it. I hate it when things like this happens.

I had this happen to mine, but I was the culprit. I overtightened mine just using my wheel brace. I've always done all my lockers and bolts up this way, but the Audi lock keys are rubbish. It's just like cast ally and breaks really easily. I went through 2 in the end and resigned myself to the fact that my new 3sdm wheels were gonna end up ruined by someone trying to get them off. I found a website with the gent guaranteeing that he could remove the lockers without damaging my wheels. I was really doubtful that he could do it, but I thought that I've got no other choice but to let him have a go. The trouble was that I was in Southampton and he was in Leeds. I cut my losses and travelled to him. I couldn't believe it when he had all my wheel locks out in under 30 minutes. This man is awesome, friendly and I can't recommend him enough. He is called the wheelnut man. Do not let any garages touch them especially with a drill. They'll just damage your very expensive wheels. I'll put the link below for everyone to see

I you do decide to sensibly use him then take your Audi unlocking key with you, as he used mine to get them off, but in a really cool way that I wouldn't of been able to do. Experience is the key he said, and he certainly proved it. And make sure you take 4 more wheel bolts to replace the 4 locks he takes out. I'll never use another locker again. Our Audi's have an anti jacking alarm anyway

I know most b7's locking nuts are the same, like a star shape. I broke mine too the star shaped bit inside the locking nut broke. If you can find a B7 breaking and i'm sure that it will be the same or if you know anyone with a B7. Will be the cheapest option. I bought mine from a breaker who had a b7 and cost me £10.

I have a set of genuine Audi key and bolts if interested mate. PM for a price.
As for getting your existing ones of, there are removal tools you can buy from halfords, or if your with the AA or someone, call them out. Normally they will only take one if you have a puncture or something, but sort them a little drink and they will take of the rest ;-)

Dannykn9 all the removal tools at halfords won't do anything to an Audi locker as they usually grip the outside of it which is useless on the mcgard based locking bolt, as the outside just spins. And as for the emergency services or garages most of them aren't experienced enough to take them off without any damage. Which if you have diamond cut wheels is very expensive. I'm Sorry but if you like your wheels then use the man above

Oh and singhb7 if you've broken one Audi lock key then you'll usually break the next one too. As they are designed to break before the bolts do. He can try again like I did, but usually it's too tight for the locking key to cope

Get your point on the mcgaurds. As for the emergency services, close friend of mine works for the AA, called him over when I had the same issue. Used special tool which moulds to the shape of the lock nut, gave the tool a hammer with a rubber mallet, which sends a shock and releases the bolt, which can then be undone by hand.
Took all of 10 mins to get all four off and not a single mark on any of the wheels.
But yeah, if happy to pay the guy above more than you would give the AA a drink, upto you.

That's why I said most of the emergency services or garages lol. I've got a brother in-law that works for the RAC and I'm Sorry but I wouldn't let him change a spark plug on my car let alone go near £1000 worth of rims. He's ****** useless, but somehow he managed to blag his way into the job. Like you say you do get some pretty good emergency service guys, but they are few and far between. I'm Sorry but it's pot luck whether you get the right one or not, and I wasn't willing to take that chance. So I weighed up the price of my brand new alloys to the price of a trip to Leeds and a £50 charge for the proper experienced person to get them out. The wheelnut man that removed mine also told me some real horror stories about the emergency services and garages. He actually supplies them with his own tool that he designed himself, and still gets called out because none of them know how to use it properly

Guess my pal is one of the good ones, lol. Pretty sure the tool he used though was designed not to damage rims. That is what he told me anyhow, and these tools are a good couple of hundred quid.
But yeah your right, there are some right cowboy emergency guys out there.

Is that not a bit much? I had my wheels refurbed and the guy there did the same to my locking wheel key, he picked up another from Audi for about 30

The locking bolt keys are between £35 and £45 from Audi, but Dannykn9 is talking about the specialist removal tool that the emergency services use to remove locking bolts that have been overtightened. They are around £170 as I was offered one to remove my lockers

Would you believe, this just happened to me today!! the audi vw specialists have well overtightened all the bolts. manaeged to get 3 of 4 locking nuts off. the last one just rounded all the edges. managed to use it to torque all the loose ones back up though. still expensive to replace. nothing on ebay yet :(

Have a look on eBay for seller gamzedagli. They have a lot of different types on their site.

If you've still got the old key just look on the end and it will have a letter. Call your local Audi and they will be able to order you another. They also have the master set and believe it or not there are only 20 different keys, and you can buy the master set off of eBay. That is also one of the reasons why I don't even bother with the lockers. If it's easy for the public to purchase the master set then it's easy for your wheels to be stolen anyway. So what's the point. And it saves you all the hassle with overtightened lockers. Problem solved lol

Ah well. New extractor key fitted but still would not budge the Fekking thing. Garage it is then. Not using these again.

I did say that would happen in one of my earlier posts buddy. Please do not go to a garage I beg you. Please go to somebody that specializes in removing lockers. I'm not saying all of them don't know what they are doing, but most don't. Please, please for your own sake use somebody like the wheelnut man above on the link I've supplied. Most garages don't care about our wheels. As long as they get the locker out it doesn't matter to them. Don't make me say I told you so buddy
