I currently have 225/45-17 summer tyres fitted. Am planning to purchase 205/55-16 winter tyres, fitted to steel rims. However, the steel wheel supplier is offering a choice of 6.0 or 6.5 rim width. Which one of these would be the best choice? I believe most normal winter tyres will have the flexibility to fit both, but which width should I go for? Is one better that the other? Thanks in advance.

obviously 6.5 is the one to go for to clear your calipers but you need to check the offset as well.

205 is going to be a bit wide on a 6" wide wheel, isn't it? An also, will need to make sure you clear the brakes (though don't think that'll be an issue with the right offset).

I have standard Audi alu wheels (horrible I know) and for the moment bog-standard brake calipers. Any problems with 6.5? I am not sure of the offset of the steel wheels, but assume they are standard too. Will need to check this.
