What tyre size...?

...should 17" alloys have on them for the A3?

Looking at some atm but they got 205/40/17s on...?

Is that right?

On the S3 they are 224/45/17

Reason I ask is because the wheels im looking at buying are:

Tyres - Falcon ZIEX ZE 512 205/40 17 84W.

Wheels - 7j 17 , the PCD is 5x100 , centrebore 73.06 with spiggot rings reducing to 57.1. Offset ET35​

Now this is all foreign to me so i have no idea what it means...?

From the pics it looks like the tyres might be a bit too narrow for the rims? Is this tyre size ok?

205s will be fine on that rim, nothing to worry about mate.
