What to clean roof bars with?

Hi all, as I likely have time on my hands soon... time to take off the roof bars and bike racks for a good sort out. Any tips / products for best cleanup of all those nasty bugs and muck without damaging the metal or coating?

I have used this:

Dont use Autosol on the actual oem fitted roof rails as these are just painted,autosol should only be used on actual solid metal and even then use it sparingly ...any car paint polish will do on the oem bars

Doesn't look like you have roof bars on your car. Guess that's what autosol does to them.

Not in this one, but I had three A4 Avants previuosly. Those had roofbars and I cleaned them with Autosol.

Just to clarify - not cleaning the roof rails on the car - but the removable roof bars and Thule bike racks attached to them.
