what the hell is this in my sump????

A4 2005 tfsi,had a noise that sounded like chain tensioner so took car into local specialist,car has 70k and fmdsh,before garage checked chain he advised dropping sump and checking pick up incase it was oil starvation,anyways sump was dropped today to reveal this in the sump,im hoping its just part of the tensioner,its not making bottom end noises so I presume that's ok.

anything in the sump can be a worry , without knowing what exactly it is made from it can be very hard to say.

I'm hoping its dropped down from the tensioner, I don't think its crank or associated things apart from the rattle engine sounds fine , no bottom end knocking
