its a 1.8 petrol turbo a6 on a 2000 w plate just looked in the manual and it mentions different oils depending on chasis number any ideas ????

Try this castrol website to check the right oil for your car. I think the reason they mention different oils is whether your car is on the standard 10,000 mile oil change schedule or the variable service schedule.
I run mine on Castrol Magnatec but this has since been replaced with Castrol Edge

This link is the to the product data sheet

this is it my motor is on the long service oil change so do i need a special kind of oil?

i looked at the castrol website and there telling me 5w 30 does that sound right ?

ok so its castrol edge 5w 30 i need then and i can use this oil to top up my existing oil ?

they say you can safely mix it with all previous oils

just had a look at the price £45 for 4 litres is that right or am i going completely mad ?

Haven't checked the price recently as I got the magnatech the last time.
Here are some other oils that meet the same 506.00-506.01 spec. I got this from erwin the official audi site.
Shell Helix Ultra X SAE 0W-30 50300/50600/50601
Texaco Havoline Synthetic 506.01 SAE 0W-30 50300/50600/50601

If you tell me your usual brand of oil I can check which one is suitable. (the file is made up of 20 or so pdfs so I can't post them.

i havent put any oil in the car since ive owned it and i dont know what the previous owner put in

is it a semi or full oil?

I think most of these oils are fully synthetic. Below is a list of all the oils that meet the VW504.00/507.00 which superceeds the VW506.00/506.01 spec and should be suitable for your car. There are others but these are the only ones i've heard off in the UK. If you check the oil containers it should state what oil specs it meets ans should state the vw reference

i dont have a password for that as im not a member

the spec on the oil was in one of those flip down books that you find in car shops you know the ones with every make of car and year and so
