hey all, was thinking today how much my darn 8l s3 wouldve cost me if i werent handy with the spanners and without you guys, what have you replaced due to failure? what have you added too?

must be the most unreliable car ive owned! thank god for vcds!

add mileage and length of time owned.

149700 owned 22 months

chinese turbo fitted (previous owner) i removed and sent to bill for porting as overboosting
ball joint
rear brake caliper failed (nipple just started leaking and wouldnt stop!)
brake slave cylinder failed
crank sensor failed
coolant temperature sensor failed
thermostat failed
spun 2x big end bearings so minor bottom end re build possible due to blocked pickup so pickup and oil pump changed
fuel guage lieing, added fuel system cleaner to fix
2x maf
wiper mechanism seized
drivers door dropped (jacked back up)
turbo elbow pipe failed
sai failed (deleted now)
rocker gasket failed
coilpack failed
brake pedal fell off!!! bolted back on fine!
power steering pump failed

stuff to do
missing pixels on din
codes atm inc;
lambda sensor intermittent
brake switch intermittent

added all mods in my sig too!!
 
I have had mine for 6 years got it on 84000 now 163000 a3 1.8t tqs

Wishbones twice

Hazard switch

Brake pedal switch

Fuel pump relay and fuel pump

Sai deleted after fixing twice

N75 valve failed

All hoses cracked used silicon

Rocker cover gasket

Front and rear suspension twice once standard and then b8s and apex springs

All drop links twice

Anti roll bar bushes front and back

Thermostat twice and temp sender twice

Headlights and will be doing again for bi xenons

yes i also have a failed aircon pump, have a new one ready to get fitted!

8l really arnt very reliable are they, lol!
 
My s3 has been as reliable as a fart. 12 months of ownership. Purchased with 97k now 107k

Well I feel lucky now. 2002 S3 on 118k and was in 89k when I got it back in Feb 2011.

I've done:

Both wishbones
Alternator
Brake pads and disks all round
All drop links
All coilpacks
One headlight bulb

And that's its! Only oil changes and tyres and regular servicing added to that list.
 
Had my S3 about a year and its got 139k on the clock and i've done about 7k of that

Mine's been pretty good so far in nearly 18 months of ownership. Car has now done 99K.

I haven't repaired or fixed one single thing on my S3, I only "upgrade". That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

A few services thrown in there too, I have saved a fortune doing it myself.
EDIT: A new OEM bumper, wing and arch liner because I was reversed into by the local take away driver!

Starter motor sticks for a split second on start up ( Happened on my mk4 GTI, S3 and now this)
