What have you done today?

was it you who also had a problem with your door handles not returning fully flat? Did you also have problems closing the door?
I sorted the handle sitting flat with some wd40 in the release cable. Never had any issues with the door closing though...

thanks, my drivers door handle doesn't always return to flat and I have problems with the door bouncing on the lock and not catching properly; seems worse in cold weather

Managed to get some time on the S3 today

New air filter, Tip, Dump valve set up, and Breather system mock up made in card first before made in aluminium

My handle sits fine but my door bounces off and won't catch, I have to delicately push the door to close it properly.
I remember Westy having the same issue and a new door mechanism fixed it.

Periodically spraying some GT85 in there and working the mechanism a bit avoids the bouncing door for me...suspect some "proper" lubricant (graphite?) would solve it.

Painted my Brembo 4 pots today, They look brand new now just got to put new piston seals and dust covers on when the paint cures and they can finally go on the car

nothing major, just fitted the new private plates. i already fitted them fitted just after we got the car just before xmas, but had to drill holes to match the original a3 plates, so left with 2 holes from the old car, so ordered some new ones the other day and they arrived this morning

Fitted leon cupra r top mounts, and red powerflex dogbone mount bushes.
Feels good!

I wonder how much a new door mechanism will cost :(

For a laugh I went to VW today to ask the price of new injectors and they said £153 and I asked for clarification - "what, all four?"....."no, each!".... "you're shitting me!"; he was sympathetic at least

Found a nice place to put my HPA controller screen.. It's not something I'll be looking at all the time so in the arm rest it goes .. Power supply will be provided also.. Nice tight fit and it can be removed for overnights

Today I went to Autosports International show at the NEC... I saw lots of Mk2 Escorts, lycra clad ladies and my next car... a super charged V8 Vantage ;)

I also received a sticker from our resident AITP organiser Calvin and his latest venture CC Designs to add a little finishing touch to my recently acquired Macbook Air... people who know me well enough will understand the significance of this ;)

I changed both rear springs on my a3. Very easy job took literally 20 mins

Fitted a set of wind deflectors on the S3 easy to fit and didn't notice much difference in wind noise. Took the wife 5 times getting in and out to notice them.

Periodically spraying some GT85 in there and working the mechanism a bit avoids the bouncing door for me...suspect some "proper" lubricant (graphite?) would solve it.

I spray WD40, brake cleaner, 3-1, lithium grease, moly-grease, multi-purpose grease into my door mechanism every week or adjust the door and pull the door shut for the other 6 days a week, it always opens accelerating at 4.5K in 4th on the same corner, on the same bump, on the same road, in the same dark - so the light and the noise makes me jump and puts me off listening to heart radio on the way home from work. stupid door.

I think the mechanism spring doesn't have the energy to catch and hold the door shut anymore.

Didn't snow enough to have any fun with here but noticed an extra 8g's airflow with the s2000 filter on, happy even if I'm yet to notice a difference

Bought a new car whilst the S3 is in for repairs! Nice new weekend car to relieve the S3 of its long distance journeys!

White details (previous s3 owner jimmeh)
Detailed the car! It's a great bit of kit but tbh it needs a map. It's no where near as quick as the s3 but a few more ponies wouldn't hurt :)

Repaired My Central Locking which has been Broken since the day i purchased the car 5 years ago, the replacement vacuum pump took a month to arrive from poland, wasnt too expensive, had to import it cause the breakers are pretty much collosal ******* here in SA. took about 20 minutes to repair

Spent 5 hours fitting a full set of discs and pads last night ensuring everything was clean and tip top as I went. Drills and wire wheel attachments FTW!

Had 4 new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's fitted this morning.

Then gave it a thorough clean.

Its now back in the garage where its going to stay until the weather picks up. A professional detail, brake fluid change and alignment check are next on the cards.

Had my alloys redone and sprayed by Rlh refinishing in Chester :)

When I bought the car the wheels were in a mess looked like someone sprayed cheap halfords aerosol on them but he completely refurbished stripped and sprayed them in dolphin grey came out very nice! Bit dirty now though couldn't clean as I'm working lol

Not quite today but yesterday so close enough...

Not content with modding cars, iPods, drum kits or just about anything else for that matter I modded the panoramic head for my camera...

Its a cheap bracket (18 quid) as pukker ones are all the money (250 ish and up) and I wanted to just see how I got on...
20160118-IMAG1618.jpg

Does the job but is a little wobbly....
20160120-IMAG1624.jpg

The rotational part of the head was particularly wobbly with only one locking screw and a rather wimpy looking 'guide'
20160124-IMAG1639.jpg

So drilled and tapped that to get it a little more secure
20160124-IMAG1640.jpg

20160124-IMAG1647.jpg

Next up was to add a little more stability to the slider the camera would be attached too... the weight of a camera and lens on there was making it sag a little
20160124-IMAG1642.jpg

Drilled and tapped for securing screws...
20160124-IMAG1645.jpg

Bit sturdier now :)

I now need to spend a little time setting it all up properly as I need to properly centre the lens to the rotational pivot point and set the no-parallax point of the lens (good article here: http://www.johnhpanos.com/epcalib.htm)

Took a quick test shot...
12615709_10153924715484874_5597273467379041926_o.jpg

Consisted of 16 portrait shots stitched together in Photoshop CC... happy with the result considering the camera position wasn't optimal at the time...

The rotational head wasn't fantastic despite my efforts...was worried my camera would end up in a heap on the floor so bought something that should be a bit better at the job..
