What have you done today?

I only fit hepu waterpumps, they have metal impellers

How do you find them? Usually metal impeller water pumps leak…. They look like fairly good quality, but general consensus is fit an OEM one. This is what most engine builders do including Badger5

Personally and from experience metal impeller pumps have a tendency to leak... particularly through the shaft...

While OE pumps do fail this is generally down to not being swapped out on a belt change and plastic will fatigue over years rather than miles (same as rubber will)...

Pattern part plastic impeller pumps can be a lottery... I have personally only ever used an OE water pump (both on the 20v and now the VR) as they do just work... as long as you factor a change of pump in with a belt change then there should be no reason to have a problem with a decent plastic impeller pump...

I installed a Hepu in 2016 on the AGN, its now 2021 no leaks yet and that cars cambelt service is due now. I also purchased one for the AGU 2 weeks ago as im doing that vehicles cambelt service first (i dont know when or if it was ever done).

The oem waterpump on the AGN had a metal impeller and i was the first owner to actually change the waterpump on that car, pics are somewhere in this thread. it looked like something from the titanic

I only use the Hepu ones as its German Made and TUV approved, and they have some pretty strict standards when it comes to using aftermarket parts. So i always try to install TUV approved parts where possible.

So why I had all the lower dash apart for the I.C.E wiring! Thought I would add my 12-volt power supply as having already removed the cigarette lighter in favour of a dual USB phone fast charger/voltmeter, nice and discrete in the driver's side lower dash cubbyhole part was from an A8 D3 wired directly to the old one that the phone charger replaced, purchased some quality electronic cable and the corresponding plug a small mod but I am pleased with it great for a tyre pump hoover or any other old skool attachments.4D4925071AA8 D31JO 972 753 2ClosedOpen

So i have been quiet lately but busy with alot of things at once, the AGN needs to have the torque converter replaced, not looking forward to doing that job so that car is not running at present, Did the cambelt on the AGU and still need to replace the metal coolant pipe as well as refresh the suspension as its a spongy affair going on there.

Restored a 2005 nissan 1400 ute that was in an abysmal condition

14001

1400 3

1400

recovered the recaros in marine vinyl, im not a 100% happy with the finish but its looking alot better than the broken leather that was on there

Recaro

Recovered

finally tested the dipping mirror for the AGU, another tucson mirror same as what i installed in the AGN and what @Tuffty also sourced

Mirror 2

Converted a set of tatty xenons into halogen (will be running dual led bulbs on there
Xenon1

Xenon 2

Still need to source an airbag again for the FBSW thats going in the agu as well as install the double din console and headunit

Finished refurbing the original 1997 slate grey centre console in slate grey original rubberised Audi finish and volcano mica View attachment 239490View attachment 239491black metallic added a handy twin-port USB fast charger/voltmeter with on/off switch.
I need to do this to basically all of my interior plastics! Did you write a thread on this?

Finally logged back in after a new pc build and a hell of a year. Things are once again moving forwards car wise and hopefully in a couple of weeks the grey one will be finished and moved on with all the original spare parts and a nice new paint job [and faultless wings thanks TJ!]
I was looking at selling the black one up too [RS3 funds] but due to the amount of previous owners i honestly think that i would get lowballed on her, even after the full rebuild etc etc, so im keeping her and most likely gutting and rebuilding again with forged rods, hybrid turbo and so on. The wife has a 320d M-sport and even tho its nippy and comfy its just not a touch on the S3.

Amazing turn out! Doubt we have that many 8L’s over here to do a group meet!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
alot of passionate 8l guys and the group has been growing alot these past few weeks so more of these runs are definately planned, atleast one every month end.

We had another successful Run on Saturday, We stopped at one of the Audi Dealers before embarking on a run around the mountain, i took both cars, my wife drove the N/A one, a larger turnout than before and yet some of the guys had other commitments so the next run will definately be bigger again.

So my Turbo decided to kick the bucket just after our last run, and the initial goal was to recon the turbo and keep everything as it was as i was happy with the car in its current state but every turbo repair shop has been bullshitting me and i just got tired of it, and decided to go the k04-001 route. should have a little more headroom if i decide to start hunting for power in the future.

Our first Major run of the year, car wasnt too happy with the mountain pass and my gearbox mounting came loose, did an emergency repair at the destination when i realised something is wrong. Turbo is still standing, really need to make effort and pull the transmission on that car to see whats wrong there.

Bought rear main seals for both cars, Turbo should be easy since the gearbox is out already, am dreading to drop the gearbox of the N/A again though, they only had one elring in stock so hopefully the Topran seal isnt crap quality. plan is for the elring to go into the turbo and the topran in the N/A

Recently the pipe leading to camcover pipe snapped. Bought a bunch of replacements sfs vacuum pipes had some forge ones never fitted had them changed, got the car back, then the dipstick snapped was prob the original, got that fixed. Still barely driven the car, idle seemed off and eventually the eml came on, scanned came up p0171 think, Lean code. Got a smoke test for the 1st time, was leaking from a plastic bit under manifold all the new bits clamped onto lol. Need to find that now as didn't want to go catch can route.

So I was on a headlight switch quest and still am I noticed most all of them have led failure so far due to age I thought but cracking many open it appears to be a lot of them have smd resistor issues so purchased some replacement leds and resistors damn they are small for my poor eyesight on that note I went about purchasing just out for the fun of it! a MK 5 polo 6R switch surface mount LEDs and much more recent in time and modified it to fit the 8L fascia after sometime later I managed to come up with this it's not perfect please excuse the night shots but thoughts welcome.

Stargate update....

I finished the stargate project in the summer last year....
407849856 10161758808974874 8904465897701701019 n

All works pretty well but I do need to do some fettling on the glyph ring as its not as smooth as I would like...

I have since done a fair few other projects although at this time not really finished many as while printing stuff is easy enough and painting is also not a massive issue the post processing of FDM prints is the biggest ballache of all with lots and lots of sanding and filling etc to get the prints looking right...

came across a crashed TT QS on marketplace, SA only got 85 of these, the breaker yard didnt want to sell me and my mates the complete car, they also really didnt know the value of the car they were just under the impression it was just a modded TT, so we decided to just purchase the valuable parts from it, i ended up getting the Alloys which are really really rare and my one mate took the Recaro pole positions which was a steal for R5000 which is about 208 Pounds, I took the wheel for about 310 Pounds, and they look like they just need a descent refurb and the tires are shot though, thats probably the reason why he crashed lol

I found out that my 19mm open wrench is worn out and closer to 20mm now. I am dropping the sub-frame, gave the ball joints a good spray with a penetrating oil. I just couldn't get a grip. Measured the gap.. 20mm. Woohoo!

I had to cut the aircon condenser off the alloy main radiator due to the dreaded galvanic corrosion between the mild steel bolts and the alloy one it has only been on for five years with great caution I managed to drill and tap some fresh threads a right pain in the neckBoltsBeforeAfter, to be honest.......
