What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Happy days. Car is back together and running. Running real nice on initial drive. Clutch engages really early which is much different than the stock clutch but very manageable. I hear some clutch chatter. I’ll get used to it over time. Few odds and ends that need some clean up. Refill power steering. Torque the wheels down to spec. Fully bleed the coolant. Fix my methanol lines. Overall I’m pleased. I’ll post some updated shots of my upgraded methanol line when I finish installing them.

Some pics of the car on first start. Little smoke from the turbo area but that’s normal to burn off the oil and other contaminants.

I took out the switch for the clutch pedal to have a look and see what i need to buy. Hopefully this is the thing i need to replace. I've heard there might be more expensive things to be done... Cruise control issues.

May I ask what symptom caused you to suspect the clutch switch, it is a very common failure but not allways the source of some problems.

Nothing really specifically pointed to the clutch switch. It's just the cheapest thing i can try to do to fix it. I've had no fault codes that my local workshop can see atleast and i thought i might just replace the switch and hope it works.

I had this issue when I retrofitted my cruise control. The easy way to check is via the measuring blocks in VCDS if you have it available.

Failing that, run a bit of wire between the 2 terminals in the plug which goes into that sensor (bridge it effectively) which will trick the system into thinking the clutch pedal isn’t depressed and try cruise control then. I did that as needed to do a motorway trip after diagnosing the issue before the new sensor arrived

I think what Rob is asking is what is the problem you are trying to diagnose? Is your cruise control not working? Are your revs hanging? Did your wheels fall off?

Ah I see. The cruise control is just not working. Nothing happens when I try to use it.

Thanks! I will try the wire thing.

No it's never worked while I've had it.

Did you do the retrofit or do you buy the car second hand? I don’t have any experience with the retrofit but common problems with the clutch switch going bad is that the cruise control doesn’t work and the revs hang for a second before the car settles back down to its idle position. I know you have one of those symptoms, do the revs hang a little before settling down to normal after you let off the gas?

I bought the car sencond hand. No retrofit. I haven't noticed anything about the revs hanging but then I've never really thought about checking that. So unless the revs hanging is very obvious I don't think they do. I will check on my way to work today.

Classic sign that the clutch switch is due for replacement is that the revs hang or rise when grear changing, not really at slow speed change but when shifting a under load, as soon as you dip the clutch the revs rise straight away, its very noticiable, does effect the CC but as you haven't had a working CC it could be another issue , changing the pedal switch would be a good start as they are a low cost item and it can only help.
Good luck with it.

Pick my Dolphin Grey Avant up from the Bodyshop this Saturday, I was hit up the back before Christmas which resulted in only cosmetic damage but took the opportunity to have the car sorted right out, bar the front bumper, roof and bonnet every other panel is getting resprayed.

Tonight, I got home to find a little envelope from Poland - inside was a pair of clip things to stop the load cover sliding out of it's socket wossnames.
Took all of 2 minutes, but 18 quid well spent!

One of the first things I fitted when I got my wagon... should’ve been a recall by Audi lol
Damn thing kept making me jump out of my seat eat time it flew back!

I was having that problem when I got my car - as you say, heart stopping moments when the cover flies open.
However, I just put a few wraps of 'cloth' tape (for covering wiring looms) round the posts on the cover - seems to have fixed the problem permanently - hasn't happened since..... :smug:

Not strictly correct to post here I know but ....
I had a drive in my mates b5 s4 with k04s fitted and it is without doubt the fastest car I have ever been in. I thought my old Celica GT4 was quick but this thing went like a motorbike on steroids.

Did an oil & filter change today using a genuine Audi oil filter from the stealers and Castrol Edge 5w30. My local VAG specialist did the last service and the oil filter cap was on a bit tight. I swear the car drives smoother now. Its only been about 3k miles since the last change.

My glovebox arrived yesterday. Managed to bag a second hand unit with the cd changer slot and cool box for about £60. Its a not been sympathetically looked after but considering doing a hybrid mod with my original mint glovebox as i only really need the inside frame work to house the oem changer mainly. Looks like i have another project!

Last weekend did an oil service on both my cars(Audi A4 1.9tdi and Audi TTS), and finally installed the new Xenon light bulbs(visability with the OEM light bulbs was nearly nothing, now i can see bright in the dark again :) )

Treated the old bus to a quality oil & filter change, been about 4k since the last one and the mobil 1esp looks pretty awfull after only 4k , really does make one think how these engines stand up to long life schedule changes, well they don't which is why so many go tits up through blocked oilways etc.

Anway, back on my preferred oil again , Fuch's titan pro s ester 5w-40 so oil top-ups should be further apart again.
Checked my IC's for oil residue and only a few spoonfulls , so not to bad given I have been running a part pcv delete for a while, still more than when I had the full delete setup fitted.
On that subject, removed all the pcv delete setup and refitted the oem parts for a few weeks while I get the new full delete setup organised.
And that's about it for today.
Off for a cuppa now, have a good one chaps

Fitted a new roof motor today as my roof had stopped going down. Fully working again and no fault codes! Job took about 1.5 hours as I had to go half way through to buy a long 10mm socket to reach the bolts. Never got all the tools to do a job in one go :)

Its like they say, one can never have enough tools , I have so many it is bonkers but still find I am missing something at the crucial time .

Lower front suspension arms and driveshaft on one side. Rebuilt driveshaft that came out ready to go back in the other side when I do arms there. Never using J&R **** again

How hard is it to change? I have the fridge thing and it seems pretty pointless.

Not today but recently got my DTM wheels refurbished in L8AU. Had these wheels on my last B7 S line SE and quite liked them so pounced on a set that were just in Plymouth. Had them refurbished at South West Wheel Repairs and I’m well impressed with the quality and turn around with them.

Now just to decide on what colour to do the calipers and I think I miss my old brushed mirrors too

Thanks, I’m very impressed. I dropped them off Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon they were done. Cracking price too! Definitely recommend them if your not too far from Exeter.

I’ll send you a message

look great chap, I do like them , just wish they came in 19" , I sold mine some time ago and still think it was a mistake..

I discovered the other week my battery was on its way out. I was a little suspiciousas as it seems slow to fire and i have a few faults relating to low voltage on vag com, so picked up a new one this afternoon aswell as some new Bosch wipers from Euro car parts. £113 with the heavy discount from the lady behind the counter, i must have charmed her!!

Anyway all fitted, but only the wipers are improved! I have a feeling my vcds isnt clearing the fault codes for some reason so may have to try the scanner at work.

Still, at least one little victory today

Which battery did you get from ECP?

I'm changing mine and was going for Bosch S5, 85Ah, dimensions 175x175x315.

I’ve used Bosch S5’s in my last 3 cars, brilliant battery’s. I run quite a power hungry ICE set up and have never had one go flat yet.
