What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

@ch1z64 very kindly sent me a trim piece recently for the cost of the postage. Finally had chance to fit it, and took the opportunity to replace some broken door card clips.

Thanks again!

Gave her a good wash and continued the process of removing the 8 year old clear bra. The glue will simply not stay with the film, 50% of it stays on the paint... So frustratingly difficult to remove. Anyway, left fender done, lots of glue still to remove on the right one, and the thought of removing the one on the hood wakes make up at night.

The paint underneath is so pristine though, in the end it will be worth it :)

Someone please help.

Just got a cracking deal on a set of TT 9x19.
Now looking at fitting them to my A3 2010 sportback. I know I will need to do a little bit of work to fit but can anyone help with what’s the best tyre so I can still lower a little so it dosnt look like a 4x4. They have 255 35 19 at the moment and I know they won’t fit but what will? Also springs or coilovers?
Hope someone can advice. Thanks

Sorry for the bad pictures, taken last minute. Decided to respray the callipers to black - and applied some new S3 calliper clips along with decals from eBay. Nothing major but quite happy with how it looks.

Also, please ignore the nasty colour of my alloys, they are next on the list to get resprayed.

LED interior lights, cheap little upgrade. Really bright at night too.

Are these originally meant for the TT? I was wondering because I used to have a TT, and some old parts as well as newer got mixed in with some for my A3. So I'm unsure about whether or not I can use them.

Consider one of these:
Audi-A3-trunk-LED-01.jpg

Audi-A3-trunk-LED-02.jpg

Really bright. Makes the whole trunk easy to manage at night. Contrary to what you see, the surface is completely smooth (LED's are shrouded in flexible plastic). Installation was easy, although the included adhesive 3M strip wasn't sticking very well. I found a separate 3M thin adhesive film, very sticky, and applied it. Fixed it up right nice. Held up in hot summer days.

I found a reasonably priced set of 7506 / P21W LED bulbs ($10 USD) by AUXITO to try out as rear turn signals. They are designed to avoid CANBUS error warnings as long as they're used for signaling only.
Audi-2007-A3-LED-rear-signals.jpg

[original] They worked out pretty well. They seem to be about as bright as incandescent 7506, but has that nice clean on/off effect you get with LED. I didn't want it much brighter, as from my own experience it's distracting and annoying seeing super bright turn signals on other cars.

Yeah, I had silver ones on my LCR years ago and I seem to remember that they weren’t cheap (these were a steal). They don’t fit ‘properly’ but I’ve managed to get the oil filler to fit. I’ve ordered a different expansion tank cap because there’s no way the Forge cover will fit the current one.

Now these were on for 70 odd quid plus postage so I messaged to see if they would consider an offer. They replied with £70 all in so I suggested £60. They said no problem and invoiced me £52.52 plus the postage. Remember though, these are for the 1.8T so I’ve had to order a different expansion tank cap for a couple of quid.

If I had looked further though I probably would’ve gone for these below but I do prefer the black ones.

Finally fitted my Forge covers today after the postman delivered my different expansion tank cap (£4.25 off eBay). Also removed the oil filler extension, that makes your ar$e twitch a bit haha. Engine bay coming along nicely I reckon??

Where did you get the dipstick from?

They’re glued on. Shove a rag down the hole to catch any bits and give it a sharp whack with a hammer, mine came off in one. I’ve heard of people squeezing them with G-Clamps until the glue cracks. It’s a bit daunting but I’ve never heard of any disasters.

Dipstick was from Awesome GTI, they’re pricey at 50 quid but they’re really good quality. I wasn’t disappointed and they seal really well.

Nice! and what about the screen washer top? Black one?

I know you guys like Forge but take a look at Jcaps

I’d forgotten all about these! If you look at the picture of my LCR engine above (post #1736) you’ll see that the washer bottle and power steering fluid tops are JCaps.

yeap, hence why I mentioned it. they are still hot to the touch though. thats a nice whip you had there

Whats the script with these expansion tanks, regarding contamination getting in water from, bags of gel, ect and going in later to the heater matrix, anyone had issues or knows more about this, wondering if these bags could be in my 2012 A3, cheers.

Looks really great, J0N. :thumbs up:
So in order to fit the Forge coolant expansion tank cover, you need a whole new expansion tank? I'm guessing it has to be one with a screw top. Do you have the part number handy? Thanks!

No mate, just the new lid. The expansion tank on the TFSI and the 1.8T are exactly the same.

OK, good to know. Yes, the original lid on mine has a long handle stretching across the diameter, so the Forge cap definitely doesn't fit on that. It would need to be one with a round knob. If sold separately, can you provide a tip on what to look for?
