They where ****** AWESOME cars back in the day....nothing came close to Ford Motorsport they rooled the da Hot Hatch world....XR3i where my favorite cars of my beloved father he had...3 in total always wanted him to get the RS Escort ye know that one that only came white...lol l remember he got his first XR3 in Silver and chose the optional extra electric windows....lol black cloth seats....with widely spaced red horizontal stripes across them ....next one was in Caspian Blue....fully loaded sunroof...and central locking ....front driving lamps and headlight pressure washers....tinted glass ......silver XR3 decals bit like the stripe down the side of the Starsky and Hutch Ford Torino but far slimmer ....my dads car looked similar to this

Dad had a Y plate xr3i in black from new, remember collecting it from dealer with him at just 4yrs old. Unfortunately it wasn’t the guards red 944 that he really wanted as mum wouldn’t let him lol, closest he got was the test drive. I loved the xr3i though, until it got stolen and not recovered while he was working in Whitley Bay. But the Saab 900 that replaced it was much better in my eyes, as it has a big Turbo badge on the wing

I had a head on, low speed, crash with a brand new XR3i when I was driving my Cortina up the back roads behind Stirling.
Hit it dead centre of the wrap round bonnet buckling it beyond recognition.
Mine cost £300 to fix, his was £3k :tearsofjoy:
Those Cortinas were made of cast iron lol

I used to really enjoy installing a sound system in my cars, not really an option these days.

I even had a mini disc headunit at one time, really do miss a couple of 12” subs in the boot.:tongueout:

Perhaps there could be an option to integrate them into the lambo vents :tearsofjoy:

Meanwhile back at da ranch my Matrix oled rear tail lights eventually arrived today had to pay another £50 to "HMRC" over and above what l had paid the seller for the items plus his delivery charge...so they've become a wee bit expensive. But l aint stopping there, same seller has a brand new 2021 TTRS rear spoiler for sale but before l gave him an offer he was already waiting on a reply from another punter so if he doesn't hear from him by tomorrow its mine then l just need the gloss black emblems jobs a good un

Digging deep now!!! Before I ran off to scour CHINA for components (1985) for a joint venture diesel engine manufacturing facility in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, I used to run/maintain - though did not own - a few Lotus Elite 501 cars (for others): cars were always left in my care for 'evaluation'!!!, lol :thumbs up::racer::yahoo::superman:: just sayin'
45.gif

ELITE 1 ELITE 2
ELITE 3 ELITE 4

Note #1: our Lotus Elan Sprint and Lotus Elan Plus 2 in the garage - an Esprit and/or Elite were never allowed in, neither would they fit - just like our SQ5... :sadlike:

Note #2: The Elite was a superb mega comfortable 4-adult-seat-car that would motorway-run-and-run-and-run ALL day long, and for sure wasn't so bad around the twisty bits, either...

I am the same Steve, definitely changed some way too often, but had a heck of a lot of fun looking/negotiating and buying LOL

Haha, brings back memories Brian, I remember spending all my cash on:

- Face off Sony
- 6x9’s and tweeters
- biggest amp I could afford
- speaker cloth and wooden speaker tray.
- sub in boot
- elec windows
- custom made exhaust
- tints

This was on my 1987 Mk2 Golf GTI that was my absolute pride and joy and still one of my faves.

Rs Turbo was great but preferred the Astra GTE 16v altho my example was a little fragile
A 2nd child and a house move stopped any more of those car purchaser :(
That Allegro was rapid in its day 1750cc with twin webers. Weighed about as much as a bag of crisps so it was rapido :superman: - Had to sell it as I couldn't get insured on it & renewal
The Viva was the old 'coke bottle' version for any one who remembers them lol - It was a daft £50 buy and a heartbroken £30 sell lol

Someone mentioned cars you learned to drive in
My Dad was the Sales Manager at a main Ford Dealer & my brother was a Salesman in the same garage at the same time (idiot!) in the late 70's early 80"s

I was fortunate to learn to drive in a number of new Rs 2000's, Granada 2.3 V6's, Mk2 Capri Ghia's, mk1 3 litre V6 Capri's. My brother had the 1st XR3 (non injection version) in the Uk as a demo - I remember the XR3 feeling a bit weird to drive after the Rs2000 he had before it (obviuousley the FWD compared to the RWD) - my brother always said it looked hilarious a RS2000 with L plates on lol

Ended up passing my car test in my Mam's green Fiat 126 - don't ask! lol

Ended up passing my car test in my Mam's green Fiat 126 - don't ask! lol

I learnt to drive, and even did my test in a cavalier SRI 130. It was my grandads car and after I passed my test I drove it almost daily, I use to get stopped by the police at least once a week with the usual “is this your car sir”

My grandad was a brilliant mechanic and we used to work on it together, If I ever found a decent one I would buy it just for the memories of those Sundays working on it together.

2. Austin A30

4. Mk 2 Cortina 1300
5. Mk 3 Cortina 1600
6. Vauxhall Chevette
7. Capri 1.3 litre
8. Mk 4 Cortina Estate
9. Mk 2 Vauxhall Carlton Estate
10. Renault Savannah
11. Renault Espace
12 Mk 1 Seat Alhambra
13 Mk 2 Seat Alhambra
14 Seat Altea
15 8P A3 Sportback
16 8V A3 Sportback
17 A4 Avant
18 Yet to happen - wavering between Volvo V60 and XC40.

The types of car trace my growing and then contracting family. Switch to hatchbacks when we got a dog and then estates followed by people carriers as the children came along. Then back to smaller cars as they flew the nest. 12 onwards were all bought new - expensive, but it’s been trouble-free motoring ever since. One day I’ll write the book...

WOW:
1. Morris Minor (split screen 803 cc)
2. Austin A30
3. Ford Anglia 105E

What our younger (fuel-injection era - post 1993 ) brothers just don't get is that there was now't on the road back then so you could easily 'BALLS-OUT' a 'technical term' of course a Morris Minor (split Screen) Ford Anglia 105E and/or Rover 60 - mine! - anywhere and everywhere, great FUN... :thumbs up:

PS: the 105E Anglia block (plus Harry Mundy twin-cam head) was the base for the 60's/70's Lotus Twin Cam motors that led to many if not ALL FORD 4-pot derivatives! Just sayin' :thumbs up:

Happy days... :racer:
