I'm a van driver for Dingbro Motor Factors.

I am a driving trucks and buses with tourists in the icelandic highlands in the Sommer season and also longer (6 day) riding trips, also in the highlands, over winter I relax and do some drawings and horse training here in Germany

You're right, very hard to know who has come by their qualifications honestly.
My point was that I would not encourage cheating, I would prefer to deal with someone who has researched, studied and taken the time to learn their knowledge as apposed to someone who has just gone out and bought some papers. Ideal world and all that.

32 years in the Fire & Rescue Service, medically retired in 2016 due to a wrongly diagnosed back injury, miss it daily (I would still be in if it was diagnosed correctly, grrr).

Last year I was lucky enough to get a tour around one of the new German 'war ships' sorry my ship / boat knowledge is as good as my hair growth..... Was awesome being shown around by the captain and his 2IC even though it didn't even belong to their navy yet as it was still under contract being built, cool as funk

I work with carbon fibre mostly building, fixing and assembling race cars. Been with McLaren racing coming up to 14 years. Before that, Redbull Racing for 1.5 years, prodrive for 2 years, McLaren Automotive about 4 years.

I’ve not worked properly on the new automotive side, but I’ve been over to advise on repairs for cars that have been crashed. I worked on the SLR when it first come out, that was more low production work. Now it’s more of a proper production line. But it’s a way in to the company to move on to bigger things.

Bet working on the SLR was good, serious motor. Definitely interested in finding out more about this, I’m guessing the race side of it is a lot harder to get into?

It can be harder, but not many people leave so jobs don’t come up much. In the last 14 years only 5 people have been employed in my department. We have 30 of us spread over 3 shifts. The only ones that leave are people retiring. When I joined I was the first to be employed for 10 years and I was also the youngest by 12 years. Not many people learn what I do so it’s hard to come by people to do the job. We’re sort of the central hub where everything gets assembled and people come to to get things fixed! Oh and homers to be done.
But there’s lots of different skills in racing; machinists, mechanics, painters/wrappers, IT support, stores personal, rapid prototyping (3D printers), model makers, pattern makers, inspectors, electricians, truck drivers, garage assemblers/support. Just a couple off the top of my head.
Im surprised there isn’t more people from McLaren on here, there is loads of modified Audi’s in the car park.

Well if something does come up I’d be very interested in applying, working with carbon fibre in the racing industry sounds right up my street, bit more high octane that what I do now...

Like working with my hands, having a task to do and feeling like I’ve accomplished something challenging or technical, very keen to learn too.
