Thanks @Jimbob76 , that was a good read. And completely agree with all of it, we don’t need to take bad service, and decent independents are undoubtably more knowledgeable and will do a better job, and you can still comply with warranty requirements...however. The only thing that potentially stops me from going down this route is the unknown in that the car then doesn’t have AFSH come sale time. Maybe it is not much at all, but I know if I was looking for a used that is what I would want. Difference being if you are an enthusiast and buys say S3 or similar that has been tuned and maintained by MRC for example, that wouldn’t matter.

A full Audi Service History doesn’t matter to me as I’ll be keeping the car for a decade by which time the impact on resale value will be less important than the overall condition of the car which has been looked after the same person for decade and the wad of paperwork and history I’ve kept.

Ordered some products from Kleen freaks at the start of the week & just spent an hour on the car using the products. Fantastic products & really easy to use, the wet look finish it gives really brilliant.

Snow foamed the car first, followed by a shampoo. After a quick dry I used there detailer spray & liquid wax so leave a beautiful wet look finish.

Also bought myself a little nilfisk pressure washer, £99 from Argos with a few accessories including a snow foam gun.

I know I’m pretty unusual to keep a car for that long in this day and age, but I’m a sentimental old sod and get attached to my ride. I can also get away with about 50% less than ‘average’ annual mileage, so even at 10 years old she’ll likely have done only 60k-ish miles. There’s something quite satisfying about owning a car outright and keeping it long-term in tip-top nick (hence my frequent and not insubstantial detailing spends!)

Ran my old SEAT Leon 2.0 TFSI Sport Special Edition with factory fitted BTCC body kit for 10 years, and she still turned heads and got lots of +ve comments right up until the day we parted company. Took my future wife out on our first date in that car, drove to my wedding in it and brought both my kids home from hospital after they were born. I have this picture of ‘Old Faithful’ framed in my garage, along with the last tax disc I ever had to buy . Cracking motor, never put a foot wrong or threw a wobbly - not once.

Arrogant b@stards! Love the Audi brand but have no love for the dealerships based on experiences exactly like this - you’re made to feel like you’re doing THEM a favour by thinking about dropping multiple 10’s of £k on a new car. I’m sure there are good dealerships but I’ve yet to find one.

I had a great experience buying my S3 from an independent performance Audi specialist in the north of England. 1 year old, 2.5k miles on the clock, fully loaded with options, absolutely pristine (and I’m f3ck1n particular) and c. 25% less than list price for the equivalent brand new. Had to travel to get what I wanted, but they were straight as an arrow and I was very well looked after - wouldn’t have had the same experience at my local dealership!

I don’t even trust an Audi dealer to service my car while it is still under warranty. Very seriously (in fact 99.9% sure) likely to use the independent VAG specialist garage I’ve used for the last 10 years, and who I’ve built up a great relationship with. They have VAG trained mechanics, all the diagnostic kit, and love working on nice motors. Will obvs make sure they fully comply with servicing protocols to ensure warranty remains valid.

I guess my point is we don’t have to suffer sh1t3 service like this - there are great independent alternatives out there who are doing what they do because they love our cars. Well done for voting with your feet @Tashfeen !

@Jimbob76 @q5man. Couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve had some terrible run ins with main dealers, non more so than Evans Halshaw who I’ve just bought my A4 off. I’ve normally always stuck the high end main dealers, for instance direct to Mercedes for my Mercedes or Audi for a Audi. But price wise i couldn’t not go to EH. The car was priced around 2/3k less than Audi themselves & it still came with full AFSH.

Rang them 3 times before deciding to drive 60 mile down the A1m & even placed a £200 hold on the car. When I arrived it hadn’t even been put through prep, it needed an alloy refurb & a very small but noticeable mark sorting on the front splitter. Oh and it hadn’t been valeted. They knew I was making the journey, so why not have the car at least presentable.

The salesmen/women on the floor also didn’t really have a clue what they where doing, I was asked numerous times why I was there before being dealt with & when I finally got round to seeing someone they told me the car had been sold. It hadn’t been sold, but someone had put a hold on it which happened to be me & they didn’t have a clue.

Anyway, managed to put a deal together as long as the mark/alloys where corrected plus any work that they found when it went through prep. Picked the car up Thursday & ive got to say they’ve done a really good job on the alloy & splitter but on returning home I’ve noticed that both rear tyres are completely on the limit, shocking considering they Mot’d the car before collection. Won’t be making the 60 mile journey back to them, just to my local EH for a couple tyres.

As for the valet, it was either extremely rushed through or a blind man did it. It was shocking, I’ve had 2 hours cleaning it myself and it’s now upto standard. Me & my partner both agree that no matter how cheap we won’t be using Evans Halshaw again.

Haha, don't think I would ever go exclusive, in my opinion, not worth £2.5k. Would much rather spend that on Pano, and stuff.
Can't argue with that at all, and you will be saving ALOT compared to me.

I don’t really understand what goes through there head, if I hadn’t made the journey down & the garage had been local I certainly wouldn’t of committed to any deal on the day. I’d of waited for it to be prepped & gone back to view it. It’s frustrating not been able to see the car in the condition it’s suppose to be in, you have a rough idea what it will look like when it’s finished prep but it’s still very off putting.

Shouldn’t really have to be but I’ve got my local valeter coming out today, he’s giving my van a winter protection valet & is going to price up the A4 for full interior & a machine polish on the outside. There’s a few little marks that are really annoying me & with it been Sepang blue they stand out. Not what you expect to need to do when you buy a new car from a rather large group like EH. I’m beginning to think because I committed to the deal on the day they’ve completely ignored what they would normally do for prep & rushed it through the garage. Maybe also thought they could take the p$$s a little bit with me only been 24.

Speaking of rubbish dealers again, I’m sure 95% sure this car hasn’t been through the garage at all with EH. It’s come to my attention that both my rear tyres are completely bald. First time using AC today & it sounds like a jet engine & lastly the squeak coming from the breaks when using them is extremely loud.

The car was suppose to be going to EH Durham tomorrow instead of been made to go back down to Harrogate for a tyre, I think the plan of action is going to be ring them first thing in the morning & see if they will take the car in & give it a full prep in there branch and sort out the problems I have found + anything they may find.

If I were you I'd be making a fuss and threaten returning the car. I'm pretty sure there must be minimum standards for components like tyres and brakes. Even in used cars...... Poor show on them at EH

Definitely going to kick up a fuss when I ring today, can’t be to harsh with the Durham branch as it was purchased from Harrogate but I still expect the work to be sorted. What makes me laugh the most is when I originally went to view the car I was told ‘It’s a 65 plate car, it won’t leave the garage until it’s immaculate like a 65 plate should be’

Dunno what people’s preferences is for black trim restoring. I got a bottle of autoglym bumper and trim gel worked well, trim was faded and going white in places looked bad! Here’s a before and after, didn’t feel oilly after either unlike other products ive used.

A think a Brick Cleaner would be more suitable....for a Brick like Land rover....rather than a snow foam.....lol.l can vaguely see the attraction of the old WW11...like things....but the new ones are absurdly ugly especially the new Disco.....wtf...and whotf designed it and more to the point whotf...gave them the permission to put it into production...you'd need a scaffold built around just to wash it.....and you'd also need the IQ of a door handle.....to even contemplate getting....one....They make a Ssanyong look like a very tempting proposition indeed
Anyway bawbag.....l got a basic quote no extras included for my car £33k same mileage

Auto trader quote? I got 28k through the free quote thing on there, had 1 call so far trying to haggle me down.

A good friend of my parents would have 100% bought it no questions for his daughter, buts it's 3k to insure for her lol....shame as it's not even a 2 min walk away, would be nice to still see it

The new discovery 4 is *****, way too high as you say...and it says something when you can buy aftermarket rear door that have a centered number plate. Disco 3 was far superior.

Yeah, the snow foam lance that came with my pressure washer was some basic plastic one and it produces less of a foamy spray and more of a slightly soapy water substance.

Looking forward to the Incredibrush flat version - hoping this will slip between the wheel barrels and front calipers nicely. Expensive, but hoping this will make alloy barrel cleaning a doddle.

BH Surfex HD bought in bulk 5l option (as why wouldn’t you - 1l is a tenner, so crazy value at £17 for 5l - will last me donkey’s). Looking forward to experimenting with this in different dilution ratios as an all purpose cleaner/degreaser, will probably try mixing 50/50 with BH auto-foam - that could be interesting as a pre-wash snow foam mix. Got the spray bottle and intend to use Surfex as a tyre cleaner (have ordered a Tuf-Shine tyre brush for the tyre walls separately).

Gyeon Cure as it looks to be a good spray sealant top-off for a ceramic coating, with semi-decent durability (circa 3 months) - supposed to be very similar to Car-Pro Reload. I’ve been impressed with other Gyeon products I’ve bought recently. Not as good value for money as Sonax BSD (BSD is not a quick detailer as many people think! but a sealant with 3-4 weeks durability). Hoping ‘Cure’ will leave a slicker feel to the paintwork. BSD too ‘grabby’ - I like the results BSD gives, but want the paint to feel slick to the touch, gonna use up the rest of the BSD I have on the wife’s car. Bought this but will will probably give TAC Systems Moonlight a go once I’ve used the Gyeon Cure up - that looks VERY interesting with up to 9 months longevity, so great to see you through winter. I’ve also ordered some Paragon micro fibre applicator pads off fleabay (£10 for x5) - plan is to spray the Gyeon Cure onto these applicators rather than directly onto panels to make applying/levelling the product before buffing really efficient in terms of product usage and coverage.

Oh, and Bouncers Done & Dusted, just because it’s an ace quick detailer/drying aid, love this stuff.
