Just had a telephone call (16.00 hrs on 17th January 2013) from a Mr. Dominic Stevenson of Audi UK Customer Services.
Mr. Stevenson telephoned to thank me for sending Mr. Westwood (instructions from Mr. Sander) my findings and resolutions for the brake squeal issue on the RS3, but Mr. Westwood has since moved on...
Mr. Stevenson proceeds to inform me that there is no proposed resolution within Audi UK to the brake-squeal issue.
So I say to him, Mr. Dominic Stevenson, that is: "are you aware that Brembo are currently advertising and selling a replacement brake pad "with the added benefit of anti-noise shims on every pad."
"NO" says he...
I actually thought he was taking the p?ss, but he was bl??dy serious!
So now you RS3 owner/drivers with squealing brakes and empty pockets have stopped laughing, maybe not, take a little peep at the following:
New Brembo Sport Pad For Audi TTRS & RS3 | APS
The advert actually says: "New Brembo Sport Pad For Audi TTRS & RS3"
And follows up with: "Fed up with squeaking factory front brake pads on your TT RS or RS3? We have an answer for you: The Brembo Sport brake pad set! Tried and tested cost effective pad upgrade available from APS.
Designed to be a direct replacement for the Original Equipment (OE) pads the Brembo sport pad comes with the exact same specification as the OE pad including (where applicable): slots for separate wear leads and anti-rattle clips with the added benefit of anti-noise shims on every pad."
So it's exactly the same friction material (good) but with a fit-for-purpose anti-squeal material affixed: really, who'd have bl??dy thought it?
You really can't make this stuff up
GO CHECK IT OUT and write to AUDI UK Customer Services accordingly... I have.
Go to the top, Martin Sander MD of Audi UK, I have (martin.sander@audi.co.uk).
AUDI UK are now taking the p##s!
Oh, and my brakes remain squeal free, and so do JonnyG's, and maybe monkeyboy_marcus's will, after today's vist to Coulsdon Audi.
