Hi guys,

I've got some probs with my a4 1.8t, it's just started having these things go wrong,

1. The temp gage goes up and down when driving
2. When I start the car the fan runs for about 3-4 mins
3. The engine management light has come on (yesterday)

many thanks in advance. Jay

Have you scanned for faults?

either the thermostat or possibly the weak impeller on the water pump has broken and coolant isnt actually circulating around your engine
or coolant temperature sensor

Hi, the cambelt and waterpump was replaced about 3 years ago 40000 miles with genuine Audi parts the temp doesn't go up and down all the time and sometimes don't hardly move at all.

Cheers Jay

my waterpump went after 34,000 miles and caused a problem similar to this
i eventually replaced with an aftermarket metal impellar version and its been fine ever since

I have the water pump with metal impeller but I don't think I got that from Audi. I've had a scan done on it and its came up with thermostat so hoping that's all I'll let you know tomorrow..

cheers Jay
