Waterin Avant Spare Wheel well

Got a set of five Speedline 18s for my 2.5TDI Quattro yesterday so out came the spare and I find about a cupfull of water in the well .Its an avant so I checked for signs of leaks from the washer .There was one blocked nozzle but a good jet of water when I removed the cap to clear this an no sign of water leaking from the lid .Its probably a year since I last checked the spare but if its not the washer line then cant see how the seal round the lid would let in rain although the car is always outside.Also the water did not smell like washer fluid .I now there are risks to the lock if fluid leaks but this works well and is dry so does anyone have any idea how else water can get in there.Many thanks

Thanks Scott I see there are holes in the gully just above the top of the light clusters which I assume drain down out of the body or maybe there are some seals missing .Will check tomorrow
