    Hi Guys,

I had my water pump and timing belt replaced at 100000km, now at 150000km, i had water leak from the bottom of the timing cover between the seal.

My question is this caused by defect water pump or its due at 50000km? thanks

It should do 80,000km or 5 years. The leak can happen when garages fit a water pump thats metal and not the revised plastic version. Do you know what kit you had fitted?

Vex, here are the pictures. When I got time I check the brands on the metal version ones. Both are German made. People on the forum reckons plastic can crack as com pared to metal impala IMG_3060 (640x427).jpg r. Well, tbh, my old oem had done 110000km still going before I changed to this metal one by VW village, but only lasted 50000km. If you look the picture closer on the brass one where the o ring is, I reckon they put too much silicon on and caused uneven surface, as a result LEAKING....now the new guy put back oem....sigh........Afterall, nothing wrong with the timing belt or pump, but due to mechanic's liability, he insisted to change a NEW oem pump.

The guy was right to recommend the OEM ones, nearly all metal ones leak. The OEM ones don’t suffer the same problem anymore and haven’t for a few years now. They are a composite material now.

Metal ones tend to leak through the shaft. The latest VW ones are fine.
