Warranty paint work

Just got a call back from Specialist Cars in Aberdeen.... Getting paint work carried out under warranty. Its got a small bubble of rust at the bottom of the drivers door the o/s rear quarter the boot and the n/s door all have the wee blisters from zinc deposits. I didnt think that I would get it done under warranty but thought Id chance my arm. Just been told to book it in whenever and it will get done.

Just thought Id let you guys know since Ive seen a few people on here having trouble getting it done.

Be careful! When Speccy's did mine I got the car back covered in buffer trails and there's now a few VERY thin patches of paint on the car. Also make sure they accept the fact (in writing) that there is no other damage to the car. And if possible, get it done at Kinghorn.

Ok cheers for the heads up. How do you mean get them to accept there is no other damage to the car?
If its not right itl be going back. How would i go about getting Kinghorn's to do it but Speccy's to pay for it?

You know when you pick up a hire car and they walk you around with a sheet of paper and mark off any existing damage? That way, when you return the car they can see if you've caused any more damage, or if it was there before.

Do the same thing when you drop the car off with speccys. There's a few horror stories going around regarding damage to cars in their custody. It becomes very difficult to prove they did it if you haven't got something from them saying the condition was fine beforehand.

Speccy's won't actually be paying for it. Audi UK will foot the bill. Might be worth contacting them and asking if it can be done elsewhere.

I have got a small bit of lacquer peel on the rear quater, on the edge where the boot glass meets the rear quater side pannel.

I want to get it sorted before it peels any further! its about 3 cm^2 at the moment.

What would you guys recommend? im not sure if my local audi (Tunbridge Wells) has a body shop. Might call them. If not, where is a good place to look for reputable specialists?

Also how do you think they will go about repairing this? Just a small coat of clear on the peeling area? pannel spray? etc

If its lacquer peel, then I'm afraid thats only covered by the 3 year paint warranty, not the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty. The bubbling mentioned above is due to the zinc on the galvanised steel oxidising and therefore its classed as corrosion.

And if you hvae to pay for it yourself, I'd avoid the main dealerships as they'll be pricey. The best (IMO) bodyshop up round this way is the Porsche approved independant - Kinghorn.

Ok im with you now. Im sure they scratched my old mans car one time when it was in.
An even better one when it was in the VW workshop one time. Had the bonnet open, car on the ramp........ put the ramp right up...... bonnet hit the roof, bent and came in through the windscreen. To say he wasnt happy would be putting it lightly.
Yeah I guess that might be worth a try. Il go up and ask when I get back. Cheers Chris
