Hello everyone! Registered so I could make this post as I am having issues with my RS, a company that worked on it and Audi.
I've been into Audi with a gearbox issue I've been having, car is a 2018 RS3 8V Saloon and it keeps dropping out of 3/5 gear and I'm getting a "contact your local Audi dealer message" on my dash.
I had Audi assist out, he said it could be software problem after connecting up his computer, and that he could only recover me to the nearest Audi dealer, which is where the car was left to be looked at.
I had a phone call from the dealer saying that its actually the Mechatronic unit that's at fault, ok i say, car is under warranty so it's not an issue, well it turns out it is an issue as Audi have revoked it!
A few months back i had a software update performed by a guy off facebook, Simon who owns Leeds / South Wales Vag Diagnostics, seemed legit at the time and i had it as a package with other updates he said were required together with a few tweaks.
After investigating the issue the dealer submitted a request for authorisation for warranty works to be completed but Audi Germany have rejected the request. As part of a request the dealership is required to supply any and all supporting information and Audi Germany have completed a full audit and found that the updates were completed by a source that isn't dealer approved, completed offline, and because of this they have voided my warranty for everything on the car that had these updates, gearbox, engine module, MMI system!!!!
I'll now need to fork out nearly 3k to have new mechatronic unit to get my car on the road again !
I've messaged Simon who said he was official, and has public lability insurance, but now said he just uses official software which he insisted is "basically" the same thing as being "official", and have since been blocked by Leeds / South Wales Diagnostics on social media! It was paid by cash so no trail to follow either, works were completed in a neutral location.
The only comfort I can take from this horrible situation is that Audi UK / Germany say that they have taken an interest in this situation and "official" company and will be investigating the matter.
So if you are thinking of having any work done and your car is in warranty I'd please do your research.
