Hi guys,

I'm getting some new wheels (volk RE30 :yum:), and it seems that I cannot re-use the stock bolts.

Can someone tell me what sort of lug bolt do I need?
Conical? What length? what sort of socket head?

I've read this thread, but it's all so mind boggling!! I just want to install the wheels, not

Anyways, here are some quick pics from my phone, it was quite a fruitful weekend,

They might have given me the wrong offset thought, but no biggie, I'll run these for a while and see if any corrective action need to be taken. As you guys call it, the stance does look like the balls of my neighbor's dog.

As above, indeed conical bolts are required, and boy are they hard to find.
The hub centering ring was hard to find as well, as our hub bore is 57.1mm, and the bore on the wheel is 73.1mm
Wheel guy forgot to supply the center caps, but they will be delivered tomorrow. Have got to say, those are the most money I've ever spent on "small bits of plastics".

Your best bet is to speak to any alloy wheel specialist that sells Volk wheels - they'll make sure you get the right bolts.

Hmm...now looking at the pics, I'm undecided if it's sticking out too much. Maybe I should return them?

What is the offset of the wheels, and what's the caliper clearance like?

Nice alloys. I might have them off you if you cannot send them back

Pete, Caliper clearance = lots. On the stock wheel it was a really tight fit, 2-3mm before hitting the spoke at most. I suspect the offset given to me might be 35.

devonmikeyboy, what do you mean by have them off? remove them?
I really hope I can send them back, damm me for not verifying the seller's claims before going ahead.

Are the callipers 4pistons or 6?? Did you maybe weigh the STOCK calliper and disc and the AP one. If not would it be too much trouble?? The discs are 362mm right?? I am asking this because I am getting a big brake kit also and I would like to make it as light as possible because adding a few kg to my rotating mass doesnt sound too good to me... :) :) P.S. Just LLLOOOVVVEEE those AP Racing brakes :rock: !!!!!!!

AP brakes are made by Brembo, or part of the same company, so that means, they are full of win. Nice one, nice to see another S3 owner with BBK on this forum..

mrgicm,

Those are the 4 piston ones. Sorry, I didnt weight them, but the weight difference is massive!! I can weight the stock setup if you like, give me a few days (to find a scale).

I dare say that any decent aftermarket setup is going to be much lighter than the stockers.

The handling feels very different now, cant say if it's for the better. The sudden decrease in unsprung weight (brake + wheels) and increase in offset might have to do with that though.

What i ment was buy them off you. Some alloy wheel companies can be very differcult when people want to send back alloys just because "they don`t like them" etc and charge big restocking fees.

Lighter than stock?? The kit im waiting for is a STOPTECH kit which consists of 4-piston callipers and 355mm floating drilled zinc coated dists, where the disc ways around 8kg and the calliper 2.5kg. Since I still have my stock brakes on I am not abe to weigh them. I you could it yould be pretty nice to know how I will be standing.... Thank you very very much...

Did some search online, the kit I have has a CP5200 caliper, which weighs 2.6KG.
The disc I have will be 330x28 with 48 vanes, about 5.7kg.
The mount shouldnt be that heavy anyways, maybe a few hundred grams?

Wheels are about 7.6kg. Tyres not so sure.

Will post the stock weights once I get home tonight.

The 362mm discs with that AP kit are the same weight as a stock disc.....9.8kg with a bell

The saving is in the caliper, haviung said that in many ways the setup is worse as the disc mass is in the periphery which makes it act like a very efficient Gyro. Gyros always want to stay erect and do not like changing direction much = crap turn in/worse handling.

Best combo for an A3 is 330x28 / 4 pots. They reduce the unsprung weight from the stock 345mm setup by 1/2 with blue pads you'll run out of petrol before running out of pads on a track

Nice one Dave, never met anyone who knows more about brakes than you do!

love the brakes!!!! they are amazing! i need them!

wheels also! look great needs a drop though! and im also thinkin they stick out a little

boggysv - how much did you pay for the BBK? and also have you got a pic of the full car side on?

I got a deal from a friend. Around 1820GBP or exactly 10000 Malaysian Ringgit for

AP brake kit
full set of ferodo DS2500 pads (front and rear)
rear goodridge hoses
installation

That said, my price is skewed because of taxes and shipping.

looks sweet mate! needs lowering though!!

mrgicm,

I did not have time to weight them, so I just googled the figues above from VWvortex. Since our brakes are the same as the MKV r32.
Seems like a significant saving to me.
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4660574

OEM R32 Brake Weights:
Rotors: 26 lb (about 12kg)
Caliper: 12 lb (about 5.5kg)

Not sure how realistic is that though?

They look like 255/400000/17 :readit:

It's an optical illusion, as the dish on the wheels makes them look like 16's. The birds nesting on the rear tyres, and children playing under the front arches just exaggerate this a bit more.

Reminds me of gapina.
