Hi can anyone tell me what the difference is between the vcds cable at £250 and a Ross tech registered cable for about £50 !
I want to set the diesel pump timing on my 2002 A6 2.5 tdi I have a cable and have downloaded vcds lite but I don't have that function available will I be able to set the timing with a registered cable or do I need the £250 one
Thanks for the help
Ian

id say 23 out of 34 functions is "nearly" the same to me

and you forgot to also quote the second half of my sentence were i said "for most people the regestered version is enough"

for me registered is good enough as i have a 1999 a4, newer cars obviously need pro, i know theres some things there that are good to have but personally i dont have the need for them

oh and as a bonus my lite version does auto scan, but cant clear codes from there, but can from the module so for me that works

I didnt forget at all & yes to "you" they appear the same, but not to many others imho, I'm just showing that the shareware type is not even on the same page as the pro version, dont confuse the 2 products.

But yes for a B5 then the cheaper product is good enough, I wont disagree there.

yes there totally diffrent and the pro is a pukka piece of software, but for many the regestered is enough, and as far as i can see, for what i use it for, there nearly the same so i wouldnt benifet from upgrading

I dont think anyone's disputing the suitability of the product for each individual, just your statement isnt correct, just showing others there is a vast difference in the 2, what you use is your choice & I'm not trying to convince you to upgrade, just making sure people are aware there are fair number of differences.

Shareware:

- Cannot do Auto-Scan
- Won't display Text for all Fault Codes
- No Basic Settings (so no TBA, Xenon levelling, etc or checking timing on TDI's)
- No Adaptation Saving (so no changing of locking/lights/horn behavior)
- No Output Tests
- No Tech Support from Ross-Tech

Limitations of 311 and 409 even if Fully Registered:

- No Generic OBD-II
- Won't work with CAN-Bus vehicles
- Fewer fault code definitions and label files
- No built-in Activation (you'll be limited to a single PC)
- No Advanced Measuring Blocks
- No Direct Access for Adaptation and Basic Setting
- No Acceleration Measurement
- No Automated Service Reset
- No Session Log Capabilities
- No Support for Guided Readiness Scripts
- No Optical Bus Diagnosis
- No Battery/Gateway Coding/Long Coding Assistant
- No (Automatic) Updates
- No ECU Mileage Reading (EDC15/16)

...and some more minor things as well. ;)
