Evening all,
I have just spent the last 2 hours trawling through forums and VCDS codes to get my exhaust flaps closing again, (permantly open since purchasing)
I have tested each exhaust bank via VCDS and they both open and close as they should, all good, they work, the problem is the flaps stay open no matter what driving mode you are in, the coding is ticked on in the long coding, bit 2 to work, so the flaps are enabled, there is loads of info out there how to code them open with various steps to do this, only one to revert back, which says tick the box, its ticked, I have coded out and back in again no difference, is there a magic sequence to code back to standard, if there is I cannot find it anywhere.

Cheers

Coding is straightforward:

-Tick = flaps installed
-No Tick = flaps not installed, ie open

could be that your flaps have been disabled as part of the ecu map as opposed to via coding.
There is something weird going on, as all tests work, coding is correct, will have to track back and see where the last map was done, it was remapped by KMS at some point, as it was there development car for their first S3 exhaust, cannot see it been part of that map, as they fitted the system with valves, which would not make sense.

Have you checked to make sure the flaps haven’t been unplugged ?

So if the exhaust flaps have been disabled by an ECU map, I am guessing that is done with other software as opposed to VCDS or similiar.

You’ll never change the coding if they’ve been opened as part of a map file.
It’ll require a tweak to the file then a flash back to the ECU.

That's what I thought, cheers, got one last thing to try, then need to track down the last place it was mapped at.

Hello, I am also trying to revert back to the standard settings and have the tick box enabled. But cannot tell if it actually has reverted. Would anyone know how to?

thought to share that I managed to test whether the exhaust flaps were actually closed. I did an output test using vcds which showed that when the car is on, one of the flaps shows 0%. When you switch to dynamic it shows 90% open. This proves that the exhausts flaps are closed and open.

If you remove the flap actuators you’ll be able to see if the actuators move 90° when enabled or disabled. Also check that the flaps are free to move and not seized in the open position. One more thing, that the shaft on the flap is a good fit into the actuator.

Cheers for that, on the output tests, the flaps open and close fine, I can do one bank and the second bank, both move absolutely fine, they are just ignoring the selection in the driving modes.
The strange thing I have come across is in the output tests, it say's the flaps are open which they are, but the percentage reads at 10%, which I have read should mean they are closed, 90% should be open, so certainly something going on, mechanical side is fine, tests are fine, they are active, but they don't close in any driving mode.

I am guessing to revert back you just enabled it via vcds, and no other black magic was involved.
Another test is to put your hand over the inner pipes, if the flaps are closed you will get no exhaust gas pressure, my exhaust is that big, I can actually see the flaps.

Cheers for that, so many misleading threads out there, so the readings are correct 10% is flaps open, right, just need get the ****** buggers to 90%, running out of things to try now.

After contacting the company who mapped the car last, it seems they had a problem enabling the exhaust flaps during the map, they were a little vague to be honest, but it kinda speaks for itself.
Spoke to a few local tuning companies, who say it is easier to remap again with their own, well they would wouldn't they, it seems you can dig into the existing map but it takes time, one even mentioned ECU out ?? so, don't want to be remapping the ecu for the sake of flaps, so, idea, is it possible to put a switched feed to the flap motors, so I can open and close at will, think mine is a three wire, would have to check, anybody done this, or any other ideas on digging into the existing map.

****** flaps.

Exhaust flap controller. Seen them used on rs3’s. Believe CETE and AWE do them.

Re the mapping, it’s easier and cheaper just to have someone remap / start over rather then pick apart and reverse engineer what’s been done. A lot of mappers also think they are special and protect their maps these days, hence the ECU out / needing to bench. Personally I would have someone return the ECU to stock and then map via the company of your choosing.

Cheers for that, looks like the controller is the path for me for the time been, or get two massive bungs up there, lol.
