VAG water pump or uprated one? T-belt change soon...

As above, i'm changing my timing belt in the next few weeks, what do people recommend as i've heard bad things about the standard water pump????

i was told the revised standard water pump is better, also if you buy the pump from Audi, have it all fitted and it fails within 12 months Audi will replace the pump under warranty including labour.

I'm self employed so have an account with Trade Parts Specialists, so i use VAG parts where I can and after that advise think I will carry on doing the same, cheers matey.

Once the timing belt and service is done, i need to get some minor issues with the bodywork done then she's getting mapped

Yup, genuine. 2 year warranty on the parts. Mine failed after less than a year and VW changed it (I bought it from a VW dealer for ease). They repaired it and gave me a courtesy car! All for a £40 water pump which is the same price as the pattern part ones.

Two choices.

OEM pump is now made of a Bakolite sort of material which isn't as prone to failure...

After market metal pump WILL leak slightly through the seal.

Neither are without their issues.

How long did the original one last? 5 years? Sounds good to me I'd go for original again as leaks just suck poo...

well mine is a 2001 AMK and i believe its on its original belt and pump, so hasnt been soo bad
