When i bought my A4 B6 it only came with one key.

I bought a key for my year and model from eBay and the guy assured me it would have the right transponder in it for my car and that all i needed is to get it cut.

Once cut and i stick it in the door and the original remote i the ignition and do the programming it should work right?

However, after looking at VAG-COM Wiki i found this:
Does this mean i have to program the key to the car via this method? Does this automatically pick-up the key, to remote unlock and lock?

Channel 021: Remote Control Matching

Channel 021.

Choose the memory position you want the new key be matched on by entering it's number (e.g. "3" for memory positon 3).
[Test]

Now press any button on the remote you want to match.
The meas. block field above will change from Not Recogn. to Recognized.
[Save]

[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Note: You can check the current memory positions using Meas. Block 007.

The procedure you are pointing to is only suitable to match the remote, not the immobilizer. The door lock procedure is normally only to re-synch an already matched remote.

Seems like i've got my self into a delicate conumdrum!

I've tried the VAG-COM procedure to no avail.

Can only dealers register it to the immobilzer?

Crap so even if i get someone to cut my key i'll still need to go to the dealer to get it programmed to the car.

I could do what you listed in the link but i doubt my dealer will give me those codes. My Audi dealer kinda sucks as they've only been open a little over 2years

Do i need the PIN and the SKC or one or the other?

When it says:

"Allow the car to sit for AT LEAST the number of minutes that were indicated by the display in Group 024"

It basically means if it says 12 i've got to wait 12 minutes before i can do anything?

First thing's first i need to get my key cut! Now, i've found someone who lives in my complex that is a Locksmith that can do it but wants $100 just to cut it! Is this about right? Thats about 60pounds.

I'm starting to think the dealer is a better choice!

I went through this myself.

I went to a local lock smith that specialised in car security.
They had a handheld box of tricks that pluged into the OBD port and read the SKC from the ECU.

Hmm does that mean it can be read with VAG-COM?

Anyways i think i'll give this guy whoes potential be able to cut my key to see if he can program it to the Immobilizer too. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about!

As Uwe told you, VAG-COM cannot get the SKC. The programs locksmiths use are different.

VAG-COM can program the key if you have the SKC. The dealers used to give these out to the owner of the vehicle but they no longer have the means to see the SKC. So they no longer can give you that information.

hi what year is your audi a4 b6? i may be able to help you i may be able to program your key to your car i have means and ways to extract your skc from your car.im based in stoke on trent if this helps you.:arco:

Haha hi, my cars a 2003 but i live in Charleston South Carolina, i just moved here i'm an expat from Cheltenham, Glos.

Would have a been a good help we were in the same country, nevermind! Thanks for the help though!

Out of curiosity, what does the PIN/SKC code look like?? I got a plastic key and keyring with the car and was wondering if thats what was noted on there.

wheres the scratch off panel? I think i just read somewhere else that on pre March 2002 cars. Mine's a 2003 but if i know what to look for i'll take a look!

The scratch-off tag supplied with some cars looks like this:

However, I'm sure 2003 model Audis did not come with these.
