2017 Audi RS3 8V Sportback Power Folding Mirrors Retrofit & Coding Session!

Using Genuine OEM and NEW Parts, during this session we retrofitted this Audi RS3 with Power Adjustable, Heated and Folding Mirrors! We only use Genuine and new parts so this retrofit came with a 2 year warranty as well as being completed as per factory procedures. After the retrofit was completed we then set about tweaking the vehicles features and updating the MMI system with speed camera data!

Saw an nteresting Facebook Post today, and without naming names here is why…

The official way of activating premium features within a VAG car is via a licence, which can only be activated via the official VW Group Service Tool and the VW Group network. This navigation was not activated this way, it was “hacktivated”! I know because the company is not VW Group authorised. Its not the hacking that I find interesting tho, could not care less, its the vehicles owner.

If whats written in the post is to be believed the car is a 2015 Audi TT, maybe used approved, without navigation. Technically this vehicle could have some warranty, not anymore! Extended warranty? Gone. Expired naturally? Ok not an issue… unless the vehicle is on PCP where if VW Finance were to find out they will cancel the policy and demand settlement!

I have both seen this happen and been asked for help many many times. Its a difficult situation to find yourself in. Why would someone want to risk this for an £80 hack?

2017 Audi RS6 4G - What happens when you are on the motorway and run over…. a drive shaft from a truck?!

A Big Bang and a lot of damage thats what! This Audi RS6 was cruising when this incident happened. Investigation found that both Front Seatbelt Pretensioners fired and that the drive shaft had punctured the Steering Rack control module, the force of which had also damaged the vehicles Steering Assistance module. These are key systems within the vehicle as not only was steering affected but most of the safety assistance systems also.

This vehicle was taken in to QSTuning who completed the initial diagnosis and with VAG Car Coding assisting, due to the advanced coding and calibration procedures needed, to put this amazing vehicle back where it belongs, on the ROAD!

2013 Audi A3 8V 1.4COD Sportback MMI/MIB Generation 2 Retrofit!

Very nicely themed and modded Audi A3 Sportback over today for an Audi MIB2 Technology Pack Retrofit. The owner of this vehicle supplied his own parts which we installed. The MIB2 unit was virgin and needed configuring from scratch in order to work with all the vehicles hardware. All options were activated and working but the owner had not soured the needed USB ports so no Audi Smartphone Interface for the moment and no Data Sim for Audi Connect.

2012 Audi A5 8T 3.0TDI Sportback Attempted Theft!

The owner of this vehicle went to drive his car and found it would not start. After going against all his manly instincts and reading the manual for fuse locations he found that the central convenience module had been exposed and tampered with! After visiting the vehicle we found that the module in question had indeed been “played with” and was dead, probably why the vehicle was still on the owners drive way actually.

Fair amount of work was needed in order to get this vehicle up and running again, but not a problem for VAG Car Coding and we even added Beep on Lock and Unlock once done so the owner will know his vehicle is locked before walking away!

Major Retailers “Professional” Dashcam Installation… really?!

Had a customer pop over for a coding session and was taken aback when I noticed his Dashcam installation. When asked if he installed it himself he answered “no, it was a professional installation!”. The first two photos, without the VAG Car Coding watermark, is the so called “professional” installation, which was performed by one of the largest names in the business. Pretty poor if you ask me, with the most obvious issue being the cable run for the rear camera, which will most likely suffer an internal breakage due to the way in which it flex’s when the boot is opened and closed. Am also wondering if the cable was run behind the vehicles airbags!

Here at VAG Car Coding we take both time and care in order to complete any installation as if it were OEM and without any damage, with the following “watermarked” photos examples of our own installations.

2017 Audi A3 8V 2.0TFSI Quattro Saloon Hill Hold Assist Retrofit!

A little love for the VAG Car Coding daily driver, Hill Hold Assist retrofitted using genuine and New Audi OEM new parts!

What is Hill Hold Assist?

During stops on uphill and downhill gradients Hill Hold Assist (HHA) automatically holds the vehicle statuary via the ABS system and without the need for driver intervention. Once stopped you can take your foot off the brake pedal immediately and the vehicle will “hold” its position if an incline or decline is detected. During the process the vehicles parking brake is not operated so once you want to move off brake pressure is automatically released for a seamless transition, however If the vehicle remains stationary for an extended period of time the HHA system will apply the parking break for safety reasons. VAG car Coding can also reconfigure this feature to work on all surfaces so that you can rest your foot if you are stuck in traffic on a flat road!

Got to love the current incarnation of the Audi RS3. All things considered, pound for pound, I strongly believe its the best performance car around at the moment!

Purchased used approved, this vehicle did not include the active tyre pressure monitoring system from the factory and was something the new owner of the vehicle really wanted. 2018 Skoda Kodiaq 2.0TDI Scout Coding and Diagnostic Session!

Don’t see many Skoda vehicles here at VAG Car Coding. Shame as they are great cars and great value for money.

Back in June of this year we were asked to visit Ireland to work on a number of vehicles, of which this new Kodiaq was one. What did we do? Not much actually as we found issues as soon as we connected up to perform a pre-works diagnostic. We found that this vehicle was in transport / showroom mode and was partly coded for options which it did not have!

Based on the above we connected up the official VW Group service tool and performed a full dealer level diagnostic on the vehicle. We then, just like a PC, formatted the vehicle in order to return it to factory condition however once the process was complete errors and issues remained. What does this mean? The vehicle design database within the VW Group cloud is incorrect and the vehicle needs to go back for a full reconfiguration however the owner was armed with a full and official report detailing the problems.

2015 VW Golf mk7 R Full Active Info Display Retrofit!

VW Golf mk7 R over for a Full Active Info Display and MIB Retrofit using parts supplied by the customer.

This retrofit was completed over two sessions as the customer wanted to stagger the cost. The AID was installed and configured as per factory, anti-theft protection removed and all keys re-coded. MIB unit replaced, configured and all features activated including Video in Motion.

2018 Volkswagen Golf mk7.5 R Dash Cam Retrofit!

Every car should have a dash cam, £50 or £500 it really does not matter. Any Dash Cam is better than no Dash Cam in this day and age and the owner of this rather nice Golf R opted for a single channel Blackvue HD Camera with Power Magic Pro Hardware Kit in order to enable Parking Mode and to protect the vehicles battery.

Installed and hardwired with all cables hidden and run behind all airbags, directly connected to the vehicles fuse box, this camera will now record both while the vehicle is running and while the vehicle is parked up thanks to the Blackvue motion sensitive recording mode.

The owner of this Audi A5 contacted us as he was having both sound and display issues with his vehicles MMI Media system. We see faulty MMI3G units all the time, normally one of two possible issues:

•MMI Unit Main Board broken or dry connections
•Water Damage to MMI Main Unit, Amplifier or Dab Module

In this instance we knew it was the MMI Main unit at fault and quoted for a new replacement. The cost of this was 4 figures unfortunately so we suggested the customer source a used unit and then visit us in order to have the component / anti-theft protection removed and the unit coded to match the vehicles features and options… so that’s what we did!

•Audi MMI3G High Coded and Adapted to factory specifications
•Pre & Post work diagnostic protocols completed

The owner of this vehicle drove 3 hours to visit us in London, listening to a basic bluetooth speaker and using his phone for navigation. His trip home was much better!

The owner of this S4 had placed a factory order for a new Audi S3. Due to new emissions testing the production & delivery dates were being pushed back. 2018 Audi RS3 8V Sportback Magnetic Ride Re-Calibration!

December 2018 - London to Malta remote session

Our friends at RS Tuning Malta recently upgraded their Audi RS3’s stock springs to a MSS Kits Modular Suspension setup, Sports rear and Track front. Whilst they were more than happy with the ride and handling of the vehicle, having seen the works we have been completing with MagRide systems, they reached out for a calibration to see what all the fuss was about.

Why does MagRide need re-calibrating after being lowered? For the system to work the control module needs to know the vehicles “resting” hight. All of the systems calculations are based on this figure and if not set correctly then the control module will fire too much or indeed too little power to the vehicles dampers in order to try and keep it flat and controlled.

Results? This vehicle achieved a drop of 23mm in the front and 11mm in the rear (centre of centre cap to bottom of wheel arch). Testing has shown that a 3mm difference is enough to throw the MagRide system out. Now this RS3 is more controlled and way more compliant!

2011 Audi A6 4G 3.0TDI Avant Navigation Update Session!

New to the owner this very nicely spec’d Audi A6 popped over to see us as its MMI3G Plus system had never been updated since the vehicles original purchase, meaning the maps were a good few years out of date and the MMI was missing some features! The owner had also tried to retrofit his own front Dashcam and Vehicle tracking system and did not do a very good job of it. As the MMI system update would take a few hours we thought to relocate the tracker so it was properly hidden and tidy everything up wiring wise, connecting the earth of both devices to the vehicles main grounding point and not just to the bolt next to the fuse box like to many “professionals” do lol. We also re-ran the cables so that they would not interfere with any airbag deployment.

2008 Volkswagen Passat 3C 2.0 TDI Bluemotion Diagnostic and Coding Session!

Bit of a strange one this!

After the battery went flat the owner jump started the vehicle with the help of a work colleague. All seemed ok but his radio code had been lost. He then noticed that his DIS display was reversed, when his passenger door was open it would display as the drivers door being open! On further inspection the rear Fog and Reversing Lights were found to not be working.

So how did we resolve these issues? As an authorised VW Group Services Provider we use the same tools and applications an official dealership does. We connected this vehicle to the design database servers in Germany and “formatted” the vehicle in order to return it to its original factory state, which resolved all the main issues caused via the jump start. Strange but worked

In addition to the above we also reconfigured the vehicle so that it beeps on lock and unlock, and auto-locks when driven above 8mph.

2013 Audi A6 4G 2.0TDI Saloon Navigation Data Update!

March 2018 - Watford

Used but new to the owner, purchased from one of these “car supermarkets”, this Audi A6 was supplied with an Audi RMC MMI unit but without a Navigation Maps Data Card. The owner reached out to VAG Car Coding and we found that vehicle was activated for Navigation from the factory and had received an update before being sold by the original dealership. The new owner took the opportunity to update to the latest 2018 maps (at the time) which we both supplied and officially activated!

•Genuine OEM Audi 2018 Navigation Maps Data Card Supplied and Activated
•VW Group Central Design Database updated with new Activation and Product Code
•Pre & Post work diagnostic scans completed
