I have removed the V6T decals from the wings on my S5 but on one side the car has had some paintwork repair and you can see that the decals were not removed before the wing was painted. It looks like it may be just clearcoat overspray, what can I do to smooth out the clearcoat and remove the V6T outline?

    Thanks

This is not looking good....I have taken to car to a couple of body shops, both think the wing needs a complete respray with one quote at £300! Still waiting for the other quote.

You would think something can be done without a respray. Its only clearcoat sprayed on top of clearcoat to blend the new paint in.

Might end up doing just that.

Thats what i was hoping the body shops would suggest. I might give it a go as i have nothing to lose. The clearcoat has chipped a little around the badge outline since i removed it so putting the badge back may no longer be the solution.

Touch up chips with clear coat and then wet sand & polish, as you say, nothing to loose.

Body shop will want to do full wing, more £'s in that job.

Got another quote, this is to respray the wing properly, £220. Its way more than i hoped but now that i know the wing was not done peoperly in the first place i think i may bite the bullet and get it resprayed. There are some other blemishes on the wing too so they will also be sorted out.

At least you'll know it's been done right this time, if not, you'll have a come back with the body shop.

Decided to try and fix this issue myself, i have sanded the area and removed the badge outline and now have to either wet sand the area with very fine sandpaper or maybe some rubbing compound, not sure which. I have been using T-cut to remove the scratches and bring the shine back but its not working.

Just a suggestion, Meguiars 105 Ultra Cut Compound, then Meguiars 205 Finishing Polish, you may need to do the job with a DA Polisher though???

Success.....the badge outline has gone. Its not a 100% fix but it is good enough for me. Here is what I did........

    1. Sanded the area with a medium grade sandpaper.
    2. Wet sanded the area with 2500 grade sandpaper.
    3. Halfords Super Fine Finishing Pad.
    4. T-cut smooth out any light sandpaper marks.
    5. Polished area with Autoglym Super Resin Polish
    6. Applied Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

I think a DA polisher would complete the task perfectly but i don't have one.

Great job, a lot cheaper than getting it sprayed, and more satisfying doing it yourself. :thumbs up:
