Went to my local Shell to fill up today and there were unavailable tabs over all of the V Power pumps. Decided to go elsewhere for a drive (any excuse) and ended up in Chelford Shell garage. Same thing. Asked the guy and he said that it is affecting everyone…..BP, Shell etc. Had to put some 95 RON in for now……felt sick to my stomach!! Anyway, car feels exactly the same. Anyone know what’s going on?

Tesco near me never seem to have issues with their T99.

You generally shouldn’t have an issue finding 97 IME. No 99 at Esso for me the other day, so filled up with Morrisons super instead. Will try not to make a habit of it but better than 95.

I thought Esso was 97 Ron … have they upped it to 99 ?

I found mine on 95 felt a little hesitant and any gear change 'burps' 'farts' seemed to reduce in noise, by hesitant it felt as if the ecu was working OT to make use of the fuel,
When we fitted a 'plug and play' Syvecs ecu to my sons RS3 engined Golf it too felt 'hesitant' It runs closed loop wideband lambda all the time and the original programmer had not got the fuel injection amounts very accurate and allowed the Lambda to correct it all the time, that felt very similar to how my RS3 feels on 95 but on a much lesser scale

I use momentum more than shell v power.

Still absolutely no 99 Ron near me, all out of use. Same for you guys?

T99 is never empty.

@Adam.Fleetwood what is the inside line on all these continued delays? It does feel like cars ordered before price rises are being held back?

Still not been able to get any. 3 Shell garages nearest to me still out of V Power……..Cheshire East.

Haven't had a problem finding Vpower at any shell garages around me, Horsham, South East. Filled up the S3 today.

Haven’t had any issues up in NE Scotland. My local Tesco had a delivery on Tuesday to top up.

LOL, I only put 95 in. It is perfectly acceptable. The car works and I save money.

Must admit, I can’t really feel any difference but I like the claims of the expensive stuff being cleaner for the engine!

Tesco by me is quite often out of Momentum. I believe part of the issue is a lot of people noticed a reduction in mpg or poorer running with the E10 so have been paying the small premium for 99 . When they have had Momentum available I have noticed more people filling up with it.

Always ran my Golf R on 95 for 6 years, 30k miles, never had any issues. When asked I said it had 270bhp instead of 300.... I'm imagining my RS3 will have 360bhp because it' too will only get fed 95 too :surprise:

I spoke to my local Tesco about this ‘shortage’, she confirmed that it’s actually an additive shortage that is put in Momentum rather than the fuel itself, but they are starting to see some come through now

These cars are made to run on all kinds of fuel all over the world. so IMHO they will be perfectly fine on 95 however, for me.....
I bought a 400bhp car and I want a 400bhp car.
I have not had a car that doesn't give better fuel economy on 99, not much but it is there.
I have found injectors run better for longer with detergents but not likely to affect the first few owners of the car (but I am wary about putting good 99 into a car run on 95 for a long time as I have had injectors leak until they are cleaned properly)
Only applicable on cars with port injection but if you are washing the valves with fuel it might as well have the detergents in it to help.
On the DAZA I can hear the difference, there were definately less exhaust noises the twice I had to run a tank of 95 (probably won't hear that on an OPF car though) :wink new:

Yes :)

I 100% agree, maybe not noticeable without the ASR valve controller but I noticed the 'pops' when changing up and down the gears were less when I had to fill with 95, I posted exactly that at the time,
I also noticed a very subtle 'hesitancy' after gear changes as well, as if the ecu was slightly adjusting fuel and more likely timing

If I want 400bhp, I suppose i'll have to buy a 450bhp car :playful:

:tearsofjoy: theres already a thread on that!
But if I ever get one I'll want 450 out of it to be sure!

The results from above.

The gain from e30 is similar to my experience running it on my 8V Daza.

Very interesting video, thanks for posting, when I had to fill up with 95 (twice) that lower rpm (3-4500) ignition ret*rd due to knock could be felt as a very very slight hesitation, my car also 'lost' a lot of the gear change noise, maybe that is more noticeable with the ASR controller, HP and mpg didnt appear to suffer but obviously did :)

I’ve seen vids on YouTube from specialist tuners that say Tesco Momentum is a more consistently blended fuel and actually delivers more BHP on the dyno than V-Power and far more than the Esso or BP options

That’s basically the story of the video I posted above

I remember taking my car into MRC years ago for a map and they asked what fuel was in the car. I told them momentum, thinking I’d be looked down upon for choosing the cheapest of the supers, but turned out that was their preferred option.

I know I will get some stick for this but the difference, on a tuned car, between 95 and momentum is only 7.7bhp. I can’t get momentum close to me so I’d use Shell V Power so 6.9BHP difference. In my Golf R I used V Power religiously, until the shortage happened and have to say, on the road in normal driving I can’t tell the difference. I would imagine on a track you would feel it but the difference in cost V the increase in BHP is it really worth it other than for the additional cleaning additives?

People want to believe it's better, due to all the advetising that is done, I don't doubt for one minute that it isn't a higher quality fuel, but i'd love to see engines stripped down with 50k on 95 and 50k on 98/99.... @ 13% more where I live, I dont see it as a better option.... Maybe in a highly tuned car or an older car (WRX/Cosworth etc) that doesn't run with the technologies/tolerances they are built too nowadays

Other than sometimes seeing better mpg on some of the cars I've owned, I can't tell any difference.

RS3 has had 2 tanks of 95 through it so far, will do 2 tanks of 99 and see if the mpg is any better and if its worth paying the extra.

Goes well enough on the peasant fuel so far.

Anyone else's local Tesco station not had momentum for a month? I've been bouncing between Esso 99 & V-Power for the time being, suprisingly though it's felt better on the Esso over the V-Power. Which I found suprising as when I first tried Esso 99 not long after it was launched my car didn't like it too much, I might of had a bad batch or could of been the old station I got it from wasn't keeping it right?

Not had any issues getting any fuel up here in gods country.

Car seems to run the same on any of it as well.

My local Tesco was out of Momentum for a couple days last week and I just went to another, but that's about the extent of it. I can't say I've noticed any general shortage though.
