I am currently looking at PX ing the M2 for an RS3. I have only two option here in Ireland. Anyway I will cut to the chase, one of the cars has been spec'd with the upgraded 192 alloys, the one with the wider 255/30/19 tires on the front.
So according to the Log Book, this car's CO2 emissions is 191 grams vs 189 on the regular 19". In Ireland our road tax is based on these emissions, 171 to 190 = 750 euro per year and 191 to 225 = 1,200 euro per year.

The road tax IS based on the V5 log book (or Irish equivalent) can anyone with the upgraded 19" x 8.5J front alloys confirm from their V5 what the emissions are in the UK please?

Unfortunately the 255s do indeed increase the cars C02 classifcation.

But 1200euro a year!!!! I thought we had it bad here in the UK at £450.

It might be worth a double check there mate... I’m sure in the UK the 1st years tax is £1200 on the wider tyres, then drops to £450 from the 2nd year onwards as @teslaboy has said

it is a right Krypton Factor system and seems to be getting more and more complex as different countries have different taxation systems.

Example, here in Ireland we have VRT, a registration/ also import tax, which is based on the cars Open Market Value (one set by the State) and the tax is a % based on these emissions. So the VRT on the RS3 with 189 grams is 30% and 191 grams is 34% that along with the high road tax make this car quite difficult for the dealer to sell. I am going back and forth between 2 dealers and so fat the Nardo with the 191 gram/1,200 road tax have offered me firtstly 1,000 cash back with my 16 M2 as a PX, it then went to 4,000 cash back and now they are looking at 6,000 as an offer.

Note the car was 89,900 euro new in Jan 2018

You can always get standard wheels diamond cut like I did here.

If it affects how much tax you pay then i'd get the standard wheels and have them diamond cut. Lower tax and you'll still get the looks.

Sounds like the dealers are willing to work with you to give you a good offer on the higher taxed saloon... I’d say it all comes down to the extra’s the cars have?! How much better is the Nardo and are the extra on it ones you would really like to have?

The differences are Nardo SS Seats, Pan Roof, B&O, LED Matrix lights, MMI +, ....... pritty much everything, it retailed at 89,000 euro while the Metalic Black is reasonably spec'd but no SS Seats and Pan Roof and retails at 81,000. The Nardo is Used (6.9% apr) and the Black brand new (1.9% apr).

Just not sure I would be happy paying out 1,200 every year for road tax when the lesser spec'd car would only be 750.

Ireland does not follow the UK. The annual tax is 1200€ p.a for the duration of the car being used.
Not that easy. The car was manufactured with the wider wheels and was deemed to shove out another 2 grams of emissions. This will stay with the car for its life even if you fit 2CV wheels to it. He could ask for it to be re-evaluated as an IVA, but would hate to think of the cost!

You know what you have to pay in road tax, so keep going back to each for an increased cash back offer until they cannot budge any further and then make your mind up! So you lose SS seats? Well at least you will have electric seats (I have always marvelled at how Audi scrimped on this option on the SS seats - just so RS6 people can have one thing extra.) And you lose the pano roof - how often will you use it?

I think Callum’s point was to buy the lower tax bracket car and have those wheels diamond cut to match the option wheels :icon thumright:

As said, I think it’s all don’t tk what option do you really want on the car and what can you do without?! For me SS seats and pano roof were a must, but it’s all down to you and your personal preferance

SS SEATS ??? No big deal in an S3 /RS3. I’ve had both and would not factory order SS. The base ( the bit that matters) is identical to standard sport seat.
4/5 SSS is far better with massage/ electric etc.
