I recently ordered an A4 Avant S-line 2.0 TDi Ultra 190PS. Called the dealer yesterday to change the order to have the S-Tronic gearbox instead of the manual that I had previouly ordered. The sales person I have been dealing with said that a new order form had to be submitted and that the Ultra was now unavailable for the S-line but still available for the Sport. They guessed that it may be due to the fact that all new chassis were to be made from the lighter materials which previously qualified them as Ultra so there is now point in the differentiation. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Not really but we can guess that, as the new facelift is coming model versions and options will be changed, as is usual really...

Facelift?! Wasn't aware of that! Oh well, probably wouldn't have got such a good deal on the price if I'd ordered the new one. When's it due to be released?

Yep, when discounts are good, usually means there is a new/facelift or that model is being pushed by Audi. A mate of mine always buys his when new one about to come, means you get cracking deal and kit, but don’t get latest toys and tech

This is how I've consoled myself. I'm happy with the deal I got and the same spec with the new facelift would probably be more than I want to spend. I've already bust my original budget by quite a long way. Surprised my wife didn't didn't have much to say about it but she's not silly, she might well use my overspend as ammunition for when she's considering a hugely overpriced designer handbag....

And that is what it is all about, get a deal you are happy with, as like anything always changing and always new models or FL’s. Hmm, methinks that is what she will do ‍♂️

You're right on both points there:
1 - Agreed. Otherwise you'd end up never buying anything
2 - Ohh yes. You know it....

@TeaMonsta I wouldn't be bothered about the facelift coming out as its still at least a year away. The only cosmetic differences seem to be a slightly different lower front grill and hideous squared exhausts! The other differences will just be different options packs. All that matters is that you are happy with the deal you got.

@ScottishA4B9 - You’re right. Seen a few pics of the facelift now and I wouldn’t have waited to get it/paid for it if I’d known about it before. The differences in looks are minimal and I wouldn’t have got the same spec for the same money. If Audi delivered a facelift for no extra charge, I’d happily accept but I wouldn’t be willing to pay the difference.

But the changes to the interior could be interesting if the incorporate similar to the A1/A6/A7/A8...

Make sure you ask for the 50l tank. My 40l tank in my ultra is annoying especially after driving the huge tank on the A6

@cuke2u There's no way they will upgrade the interior to the new A6-A8. They never change interiors much on facelifts if at all. The biggest interior change I have seen of late, is offering the Virtual Cockpit in the facelifted A3. The A6 - A8 interior will be left for an all new model (B10).

Well we can only go on what is out there on other sites and there is the suggestion that they will have the touchscreens, but we can always speculate. We shall see as they need to up the specs to meet the new 3-series BMW otherwise the sales of the A4 will drop even further.

If they don't then my next car will be something else...

Agree, but who knows. More likely to be cosmetic, with a few additions, so maybe touchscreen, new matrix lights etc

@cuke2u The 3 series (BMW in general) is normally VERY dated compared to Audi on the tech/interior front (the main reason along with rear wheel drive that I refuse to consider another BMW). And they point blank refuse to get with the times and move away from orange dials to up-to-date screens and virtual cockpits. I definitely can't see the new 3 Series being anywhere near the B9 in terms of tech and interior.

The new series 3 is due to be shown in oct 2018 for sale in early 2019 with a fully digital dash https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/bmw/bmw-3-series-2018-next-three-codenamed-g20-revealed/
If the series one is anything to go by it could take the technology above the current A4 and possibly above the facelift
Still won't persuade me to buy one though. My reasoning is that I never buy the same car twice, unless there is something radically different about it.
I could easily end up in the new focus unfortunately...

The facelift A4 that was seen driving about has the same interior as now.

That could be because they are keeping it under wraps. But more likely there won’t be significant changes, as is the norm for facelifts.

Depending on 3 series tech and how it’s looking, they might be forced to make the tech pack (or some elements of it - e.g. larger central screen) standard.

The pics I have seen of the new 3 series show tha ghastly dated orange dials with a screen half way across them. Looks awful. A right mishmash.

Yes as I commented on the test mule before, it maybe just an old car wearing the new bits outside. Not wise to speculate on the test cars as I remember when the Mk5 Mondeo was being tested and it had a rusty old pipe as a exhaust and everyone was getting worked up about it LOL. They do tend to test new parts on old car but I am probably just holding up my hopes too much as would love to buy the A4 again if they upgraded the interior. If they don't then they will be falling well behind with other manufacturers because already some are starting to complain about this with the current model. The technology might have been fine in 2015 but now we all expect far more.

The interior in the A4 is still light years ahead of any other models out there bar maybe the new Jaguars. The only thing it needs is touch screens, which strangely you can get everywhere else throughout the VAG range.

It isn't the interior I have an issue with, it is the technology that has fallen behind as you say. I am fine with the interior design...

Having had touch screens on previous cars as well as the wife's current car, I have to say that I much prefer our interface. Trying to find where to push on the screen while driving and concentrating on hitting the right spot on the screen with bumps and things is a pain in my opinion. Also, the fingerprints all over the screens does my head in! Haha

Not bothered about touchscreens really, it is the manner in which the technology works, it's rather clunky and doesn't 'interface' with the user, or other forms of technology readily. The main centre screen display is also rather 'old school' as well. I am a IT technician and rather 'geeky' about it.
Our new fiesta has touchscreen, yes it is ok to use when stationary and it's responsive, but I just use voice when driving as I believe using those screens when I am driving is a distraction, as I have stated before.
I would like to see the MMI number buttons do more for instance and I feel Audi missed it with this.

I didn't post it to start a debate, but, for the next car I will not have so much equity at my disposal. I have enough to either pay this car off in one and bit years, buy a new one car outright - hence a cheaper car, or start a new PCP deal. However I am coming up for retirement soon, we both are, thus my income isn't going to be as great.
Sure there are differences in the two cars, but the new one looks interesting and will drive and handle better, I had one in 2011 so I know, and it will have most of the technology I am after.
Beggars can't be choosers I am afraid...

fair enough, wasn't debating, just banter. Focus is a good car, as is Fiesta, and they hold their values much better than Mondeos!
Maybe you could look at PCH deals, as often little/no deposit, and shorter term deals
