Tyre Size On 8.5 & 9.5j

I have a A3 TQS and have just put on some new wheels:
Front: 18x8.5j et35
Rear 18x9.5j et35

The wheels came with tyres but I don't like the amount of stretch on them (fronts 205/40 rears 215/40). I'm looking at two options for the rear, 235/40 or 240/35, I'll match the fronts depending on the rears. What out of these two will fit and provide the best rim protection on a 9.5j wheel? The car isn't lowered yet, just on standard sports suspension, once the coil overs go on the front will be dropped slightly to match the rear at the current height. Feedback appreciated

id be fitting 235 to the 8.5 rim. And 245 on the 9.5. Im not one for stretched tyres at all. They would be my minimum tyre widths on those rims
