Looking for the 2000 1.8T quattro turbocharger part number. The local motor factors would like this before sending a turbo down.

I have a grainy image from about 10 years when I had the turbo off next to the K04 and I think the blue plaque has 058145703J and the compressor has 53041015095B.

Can anyone confirm that these are correct please?

If its a standard turbo, its a K03-005, or VAG number 058145703H

If your replacing it then it makes no sense to buy a new one the same. at the very least get the K03-029 (058145703J) which is much the same just a bit more efficient, but ideally a K03-073 (06B145703B)

New cost is the same, so you might as well have the larger unit.

I was just going to get one from a local motor factor that is refurb. Costs around £480-£80 exchange your old unit.

I don't want to remap or anything for a different turbo but if these would be OK I am happy to get a slight alternative.

Here is a pic of the original unit.

If there are better places to get them then I am happy to go elsewhere.

the -029 and -073 will go right on without a remap and will work fine. Leaves you scope to map it further in future if you desire.

Great thanks.

Anywhere you would recommend getting one from?

Googling places there are a few online that seem to do them for £400 for I assume refurbished turbos.

i've never seen an -073 other than new, they're about 600quid new.

A few places will say they'll refurbish, but obviously they'll only rebuild what you have.

Yeah that is another option. I was thinking a refurb would be the best bet?

I think I would be happy enough with the 029 and that seems to be more readily available.

I saw in this thread turbo specs towards the end #17:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...w-FrankenTurbo-K03-073-quot-The-Mini-K04-quot

"Look at the fin/specs of the turbo. The USDM K03S is a K03-029 which is still a 12 fin design.

K03-005 aka K03 Specs:
Compressor: 36/50
Turbine: 36/45

K03-029 aka K03S Specs:
Compressor:36/50
Turbine: 40/45

K04-015 Specs:
Compressor: 38/51
Turbine: 42/46

K03-073 Specs:
Compressor: 38/51
Turbine: 40/45

the only difference between the K04 and the K03-073 is the turbine size by a little bit.

All the info I just listed can be found on FrankenTurbo's website."

I used to have a K04-015 on the car and it was never mapped and was just run on my K03 remap.

It would boost in a weird way (kind of like a wave of up and down until maybe 4k revs) so I wondering if K03-073 would be similar looking at the specs.

i ran a hybrid that was bigger than the -015 on a stock tune and it just worked.

I did have "wavey boost" at one point, but that was a split DV.
