    Hi gents,

Looking to get my gearbox oil changed but Audi keep saying its a sealed unit and the oil does not need changing. This I find laughable.

After reading up on this it would seem some owners have had their gearbox oil changed and it has made a huger difference. Has anyone done this, and if so any recommendations in the Hampshire/Wiltshire area were I can get a oil change done. :)

Zf does as i have emailed them already ...but on a car over 100k there is a risk for faliure after change as all the cra.p will start moving... also conventer is holding quite a lot of oli too with so not all will be changed.

I have read that dynamic oil change and flush works better ...

    Still debating on mine...

It needs to be done by a ZF specialist, not just taken to a garage that will drop the oil, change the filter then stick a bit more oil in. They have to have the correct equipment to complete flush the system including the gearbox cooler which is in the front radiator of the car. I drove 320 miles round trip to have it done by these guy's as they are the best ZF dealer in the country. http://www.mackie-transmission.com/index.php/en/

Zf lifeguard oil is around £21 per L and you need around 8liters

Strange that ZF recommend the box being serviced, have to say the smoothness of my box improved after it was service, but my box was done around 170-180K.

They asked if it had any issues, to me I can't say it has, in the 12k miles I've had the car the gbox drives the same as it always did, but without comparing it to a car with less miles on I can't be certain it drives as it should.

Stephens engineering automatics in Ware are a zf trained centre quoted 195 plus vat for oil and filters or 350 if I have the 6hp26 with the plastic sump. Signature transmissions in Northampton quoted 395 plus vat for oil and filters.

I guess I'd need to find some reviews on them as thats quite a difference.

Also if the oil have not been changed regulary on high milage cars oil change can cause issues. Some ppl report tranny falling apart . Its caused by all metal and dirt bits being disturbed while oil is drained and creating havoc in the gearbox.

This is why dynamic oil change is not recomended . Best way would be to do a static change and after 2-3 miles change again to ensure all **** comes out.

But on the other hand some ppl change the oil with no problems

Its a bit of a lottery

Thanks Niedzial , the chap said he thought it might be the 6hp26. I told him it wasn't the multi tronic or the dsg he agreed the a 5hp / 6hp would be the only box upto the engine.
I've heard similar to the above with the changes, most places said don't do it unless its had regular changes or if its got a problem at the moment. I think its probably the sensible thing at the moment not to change it despite wanting to keep it in the best working order.

People that report issues after changing the oil are the ones that just let whatever oil they can drain out, and the system is not flushed correctly (if at all). It's all about finding a service & repair facility that have the correct tools to do the job.

Thanks B5, I think the place you had it done probably is the right place for me. I guess I'll have to wait and get it done later in the year.
