veeeight, Would you buy a car in this color?
Or would you go darker blue?

People go on about the Audi A3's interior yeah specced to the hilt yeah it's pretty awesome in most aspects,l always found getting into my ST3 a bit of an event, loved the interior, the dashboard just wrapped around you the combination of the interior light pack plus the illumination of the door sill logos was real class,as where the full leather recaro seat's best l have ever had the pleasure of sitting in,the interior was the best thing about car yeah forgot about that lag free ecoboost engine a real peach of a engine, externally the new focus RS could have been better, not really a fan, prefer me Audi now
Well my final opinion of the Focus RS will when l drive it,just wouldn't want to bump into one at the traffic lights or a dual carriage or for that matter any road

Yeah it's horses for courses mate for sure.

Just depends what you want out of a car. 20 years ago maybe my priorities would be different but I don't spend a huge amount of time in 'turbo nutter' mode so most of the enhanced driving capabilities would be wasted on me. Just don't feel that comfortable blatting round B roads nowadays! lol

.......not to mention I still remember me old man, who was a massive car nut and always had performance cars, tearing round country roads on the Kent/Sussex borders. Unfortunately one day he came round a very sharp bend where an articulated lorry had broken down. He didn't break in time and ended up wearing his nose over his entire face and bruised from top to bottom!

Oh dear bit like my boy with his ribs/lung
Yeah as much as l love Fords l couldn't do RS focus too mature for that type of car now, yeah l another thing that gets me is why not bring this designation of the car out sooner that includes Audi aswell no sooner are they on the road and there's a new focus/8txyz out

I have a feeling Honda is going to match the Focus RS specs when they release the next gen Honda Civic Type R.

http://www.carscoops.com/2015/10/future-cars-2017-honda-civic-type-r-is.html

Honda is already cooking with gas on this recently unveiled 2016 Honda Civic in the looks and interior tech department. Now to spice those things further throwing in the Type R specs to stay above the competition (Focus RS) and you're possibly looking at the potential of something amazing.

Meanwhile Audi is getting trounced with the aging 8V specs that makes it RS3.

...

Unless the RS3 sedan boast completely new mechanics than the hatchback. I know. Keep dreaming. :pride:

If you need to release the case/running costs, and can do with a smaller car then my first choice would be 2nd hand fiesta ST. Better to drive than an S3 apparently.

Want to go even cheaper? 2nd hand Susuki swift.

You are losing the audi cockpit and the premium feel for either, but they're better bang for buck.

while I like the fiesta platform the st is cracking but it would be be a s3 contender lol

True story this.

A mate of mine had a Fiesta ST with Mountune. That was a great car, exhaust note was seductive (for a 4-cyl).

He was looking to upgrade, so test drove the S3, he always liked the look of mine.

He came back saying that while it was undeniably quicker off the line, he didn't feel it as sure footed through the corners, nor as engaging (this was a Saloon with mag ride). He was all set to stick with the ST, I told him to go try the Golf R.

Predictably, he bough one the next day.

So yes, the ST (especially with Mountune) can be a match for the S3, depends what you want out of a car.

In what stakes? Driver enjoyment - more than. Fashion - no. Traffic light drag - no. B-road times - probably, yes.

That Civic R doesn't look too bad but the rear spoiler again................just utterly rediculous on a road car!

..........again the missus will love it ...........I reckon she'll be able to dry the duvet on that one ;)

The missus had a fiesta Zetec S a couple of years ago , it was undoubtedly the worst car I have had the misfortune of driving / owning , it was made out of tin foil , the interior was shocking , God it was an awful car , just had it a few months and got shot if it , looked nice though !

yet the s3 beat the golf R in the 5th gear shoot out .....

Its like what car award for the car of 2016 ......Can they predict the future

That wasn't even a serious test. It was always going to be a Prost v Senna showdown. They used LC on the S3, but not the Golf R nor the Leon!

Suffice to say the Golf R tops the S3 in every other test/review :)

(Some even rate the Golf R Estate over the RS4 !!! )

Being in a similar position and facing a potential financial squeeze a few months ago I bailed out of my S3 order. I was gutted at the time but now I'm so glad I did even though my squeeze never came!
I ended up getting a mk5 R32 which is an absolute peach, far more characterful than my previous 8P S3 and it gets more appreciation from fellow petrol heads.
As for the fiesta ST, my GF has got one and it's a frigging hoot to thrash about but a tad too pricey still when you compare it to what machinery you can get for circa £10k................and my R :tonguewink:

Good luck with your interview and hopefully you'll get to keep the S3 but don't worry too much as you could easily end up with a quality motor and £10k+ in the bank!

I love the Fiesta ST. It really is a hoot, and very very rewarding to drive cross country on a B road.

*Huge* grin factor :)

@Bristle Hound - you bought one yet? :p

So the car is in the garage today for some small problems requiring sorting. Mainly driving the thing and intermittent problem with revs not in sync with speed etc.. possible clutch problem..possible turbo problem.. possible something. Master tech was unsure when I took him out in it..

Anyway they were going to be plugging it in to diagnostics and testing out scenarios etc. and is booked in for 2 days to check on cold starts / warm starts etc.. well I just got a text to phone the service department.. phoned and they are on lunch..for an hour... aaaaarrrrrggghhh gonna be the longest hour ever. Hopefully it's a call to say it's fine and all in my imagination. lol

But part of me is really worried that it is indeed clutch and not covered under warranty and I gotta pay for it!! :( All I need just now.. :(

^ Well, that's what you say, although Mr. Frankel from Autocar thinks different!

To be honest, they are such different cars, it does boil down to what car you want.

I never really listen to Car Reviews or other Journalists Opinions, as I find them in the same Category as Film Critics................I find that 9 times out of 10, there Opinion or Review is wrong to me!

It still Baffles me on how people go on & on about how great they think the Golf R is.

.............I had a Ver2 Golf R32 & found it awesome(all but the bland usual VW Dashboard), but taking a Test Drive in a Golf R after it, was one of the most Upsetting Experiences of my Motoring life & couldn't believe how they'd Ruined it!
Todays Eco Society/Sandal wearing Politicians have brought down VW to this level I guess!! :-(

*** , it always happens at the worst time ! Hope you get it sorted, I got a new clutch in my Mini under warranty last year .

Well just went and collected the S3. they haven't found anything wrong with it.. putting it down to a glitch of some sorts and if it happens again have to take it back in.. tbh i am actually glad i have it back, it feels way better than the TT courtesy car I was given. (S - line,petrol,non-quattro). Although the steering and damping of the tt felt better going round bends i feel the S3 is all round much better. ((For my needs and feelings)) Comfier and more power = sorted. Haha.

Fingers crossed i can keep the ****** thing now. Lol ;-)

Good news mate :)

Any joy on the job front?

Yeah much better and found some love for the S3 again.. maybe thats the best way going forward. Go and test drive an "ordinary?" car every so often then it will feel amazing to go back to S3. Haha

Job front.. well where to start. This week at work has been horrific. I had an interview on Monday past but won't find out for another week but i have another interview that looks more hopeful tomorrow evening at 5pm. Closer to home too so less miles and more zzzzz's in the morning. :)

But i am staying positive though as if I don't get a new job then on my extra spare day off per week i am going to resort to being a male escort... easy money...haha
